Didn't he do 4 with Hank Jones for BN?  2 studio quartet dates, one of duos, and a live one at Newport?  All quite nice as I recall and I was at the Newport date.  But I sometimes wonder why I have quite so much Jo Lo, but not as much as I wonder how I got so much David Murray.

I don't know of a Newport one with Hank.

Okay, thanks. I forgot Hank was on this. I really don't remember this the same sort of thing. I'll look for it to revisit.

Never saw him live. And still have to hear him for the first time on record. He looks very similar to Jackie McLean only that I think Lovano is white....

The album with Liebman (my favourite, Brecker and Lovano might be interesting, with a good rhythm section.....

Joe Lovano is clearly an excellent musician (and very nice guy, I heard), but I personally am not crazy about him. I don't know why. Lack of excitement, perhaps? Even a saxophonist of far inferior skill than him can get me excited.

This sums up my feelings on Lovano too. I'm certainly happy he is around and making records, but his leader dates rarely get my blood pulsing. When they do it tends to be because Lovano is a contributory to a well-matched group sound, as on those excellent Motian records.

my feelings as well, literally almost fell asleep when I heard the trio with Crispell at Jazz in Middelheim in 2017... I also like other Motian records better than those with Lovano... One album with Lovano that works very well for me is Stolas from John Zorn's Book of Angels with Lovano basically taking Zorn's place in Masada and Uri Caine added on piano, giving an Eastern-tinged Hard Bop Sound that's a bit reminiscent of those nice Dusko Goykovich albums...
