Ron S Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 (edited) Within the past day or two, AllDirect.com has lowered the standard price for regular OJC's to $7.99 (from the previous $8.65, IIRC), and for 20-bit K2's to $9.99. Not as good as the J&R special sale price (no longer in effect) of $6.99 for regular OJC's, or the yourmusic.com (much smaller selection) price of $5.99, but still pretty good for a regular price. And you get free shipping for orders of $99 or more. If you already have some at the higher price in your basket, you'll have to delete them and add them again to get the lower price. FWIW. EDIT: The AllDirect.com price for Blue Notes, including RVG's, was already $7.99. Edited June 22, 2005 by Ron S Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 These great deals on OJCs are raising my paranoia about the Concord deal again... Quote
JSngry Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Is this a "reliable" store? No "surprises"? Quote
Sundog Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 I've shopped with them 4 or 5 times over the last year. Both big and small orders. Never a problem, prompt delivery, and good communication about order status. Quote
catesta Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 That is good to know. Those are great prices. Too bad I can't order anything for at least the next few weeks. Quote
Ron S Posted June 22, 2005 Author Report Posted June 22, 2005 Is this a "reliable" store? No "surprises"? ← They're great. I've ordered many, many CD's from them. They'll only let you order what's in stock (no backorders), although on rare occasions they won't have something you ordered and it will be cancelled. It takes 2-3 business days for orders to be processed and shipped (FedEx ground), and then it usually takes 2 days to get from them in Nashville to me in Philly. They have a terrific return policy for damaged or defective discs--you email them, and they email back an RMA number within 24 hours. When they receive it back, they credit your card for the cost of return shipping, and then send you a brand-new replacement (or credit your card if it's no longer in stock--again, they will not backorder). They don't always have everything in stock, and it sometimes takes them a while to restock a title, but basically what you see is what you get. Again, I've placed many orders with them (usually $99 or more to get the free shipping), and have never had a problem. Quote
JSngry Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Uh-oh.... I smell money going out the door... Quote
Quincy Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Very reliable. I've used them a few times for previous OJC runs. Helpful Hint : To see if the disc you're after is in stock click "(CD Info)." I haven't ordered from alldirect in a few months, but I know* at least a few OJC titles that were out of stock last time are now in stock. *I have an alldirect OJC spreadsheet that I use to plan my orders. Brad Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 That's a price that's hard to beat. Wonder how they can afford to do it? Volume, volume! Quote
Patrick Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Thanks Ron. I've placed my order for 11 of the 12 items that J&R ended up not shipping to me. Of the titles I was after, appears only Nat Adderley Much Brass is out of stock at alldirect. Will be interesting to compare J&R and alldirect--my first orders at each. And then no more shopping for awhile (...unless J.J. Johnson Mosaic goes last chance)! So many new treasures to enjoy. I share the paranoia about OJC given these sales at multiple websites. Quote

I share the paranoia about OJC given these sales at multiple websites. ← I'm in the same boat regarding purchases in the near future (recent big orders at both J&R and AllDirect), and also have the J.J. Johnson set on the radar for last chance (along with Parlan and Turrentine). I'm not so worried about these OJC prices--J&R's sale covered other labels, also, and AllDirect has just brought the OJC prices down a bit to be in line with their other prices, e.g., Blue Notes. However, other indicators--like the disappearance from Fantasy's site of the list of upcoming 20-bit K2's--have me concerned about Concord's intentions. Hopefully, they're just in a holding pattern for the moment and, while deciding what to do about future releases, won't delete any current titles. I don't have the time, knowledge, or money right now to figure out every last OJC I don't have yet that I might want (although I've picked up quite a few in the past few months). Quote
JSngry Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Is there a secret passageway to be able to search by label? Quote
Ron S Posted June 23, 2005 Author Report Posted June 23, 2005 Is there a secret passageway to be able to search by label? ← Not that I know of. That's the one downside of the site--it's not real user-friendly. You just have to search by artist, and know the titles you're looking for. If you click on "CD info" for any title in the list for each artist, you'll go to a page that shows the label and release date, and whether it's in stock. If I'm in doubt, I usually cross-reference with the label and release date info on Amazon, and that's always ensured that I got exactly what I wanted from AllDirect. Quote
Guy Berger Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 I want to endorse Alldirect 100% -- I've been ordering from them for almost 2 years now and have never had a bad experience. The only defective CD they sent was dealt with promptly and fairly. It's annoying when they don't have something in stock, especially when it runs out AFTER you order it, but with those prices you can't really complain. Guy Quote
