Jazzmoose Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 I just started renting "The Prisoner" from Netflix. After hearing so much about it I found the first episode ("The Arrival") a little disappointing. Guy ← The last two episodes are what really make that series. There are several good episodes on the way to the last two, as well as a few sleepers. Overall, I think Danger Man was a better series. But I don't think I have a lot of company in that respect. ← Interesting. I loved the series, except for the last episode. Quote
GA Russell Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 Danger Man's hour long episodes, aka Secret Agent, are my all-time favorite television show. I believe that I have all the episodes on videotape, taped off the air when they were run in Atlanta in the mid 80s. The video quality of some are poor. One day I'll spring for the Megabox. It's great to see that others appreciate it! Quote

It's all great stuff. BTW, when you decide to get the box sets, Digital Eyes has the best prices. I got the box of the hour-long episodes for $100 and the box of the half hour episodes for around $50-$60. The prices were way better than what Amazon was offering. I like The Prisoner too, but I do have to admit that I liked it a lot more when I was 19 than I do now. Edited August 7, 2005 by J Larsen Quote
BruceH Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I finally got the Bob Newhart Show Complete first Season Set. I'm settling in for a debut viewing now. ← Are you going to do a shot every time someone says "Hi Bob"? Quote
jazzbo Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 (edited) About 1/3 the way through Alias Season 2 (Lena Olin! ), saw a cheap copy of Alias Season 3 and ordered it! Edited August 11, 2005 by jazzbo Quote

I've been thinking of springing for the mega-set on this one (Deep Discount DVD offers it for well under a century note). But it's been a long time since I saw any of these (and I never saw all of them, including the last two). So perhaps I should rent first. Quote

Another great series from the UK was "Tales Of The Unexpected" by Roal Dahl. I have the first two box sets and am eagerly awaiting the third box set.. Quote

ghost of miles Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 Good Times. Any time you meet a payment. Good Times. Any time you need a friend. Good Times. Any time you're out from under. Good Times. Hangin in a chow line. Good Times. Ain't we lucky we got 'em. Good Times. ← I was once at a Sonic Youth concert where Redd Kross covered this song. Where the h is Hill Street Blues? I'm beginning to think that there must be some sort of legal issue holding that show up. Quote

patricia Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 (edited) The original BBC 4 part mini-series, "Rebecca", featuring Jeremy Brett and Joanna David. It also had Anna Massey, the daughter of Vincent Massey, our Governor General in the seventies, as "Mrs. Danvers". Interestingly, Rebecca was re-done in the nineties, and featured Joanna David's daughter, Emily Fox in her role. In the interim, Ms David had married Edward Fox, who was the assassin in "Day of the Jackel". Both mini-series were much more complete than Hitchcock's production in 1939 with Olivier and Joan Fontaine. But, that, I think, was due mostly to the time constraints. The original series is not available on DVD, but the subsequent one is. Edited August 29, 2005 by patricia Quote
Rosco Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Curb Your Enthusiasm season 4 come out in the UK next month... Can't wait! Quote
Jim R Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 My next DVD purchase (aside from the next COMBAT release- season 5, which is due out any day now) will likely be this. Not a series, but a 1968 made-for-tv movie that I only saw once (on PBS, probably in the 1970's). It made a big impression, and I've been thinking about finding it ever since. I hadn't realized it was on DVD already. Some reviewers have called this the greatest version of this story every filmed. Palance's performance was riveting. Quote
Guy Berger Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Does anyone else think Jack Palance looks like Norm McDonald? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 (edited) You know what I'd jump to buy. 'I'll Fly Away' A wonderful series with Sam Waterson set in the South during the Civil Rights years. It was tucked away at some godforsaken hour on UK TV - I stumbled upon it and was gripped. I'd love to use some of the scenes in my teaching of Civil Rights. (and while we're at it 'Eyes on the Prize', the documentary, would be nice too. When I saw it in the 80s I knew little about the history of that time). Edited August 29, 2005 by Bev Stapleton Quote

jazzbo Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 And some people wonder why they are busy making movies of TV shows? I preordered Alias Season Four. Maybe by Thanksgiving I'll be caught up and can actually then watch broadcast shows! Quote
