Dr. Rat Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 They gave the MVP to Duncan?!?!!? He played horrible. Absolutely horrible, especially for all this talk about being "the best power-forward ever" bullshit. ← I agree -- the more I think about it, Bowen should have really gotten it for (mostly) shutting down Rip, and then making crucial plays when switched to Chauncey. Bigtime PF's have a way of choking in these big series, so to be fair to TD at least he's won a championship (unlike Barkley and Malone). Guy ← Well, I don't think Duncan is "great," but the hype isn't his fault, he's just a sportswriters' darling. But he's better than some of you guys are letting on. You have to consider he was playing against a team that was very very well equipped to stop him and very determined to do so. A truly great player may have found a way of having more of an impact on the series. But Duncan's team won, and I've seen Jabbar and Olajawan look irrelevant, too. --eric Quote
JSngry Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Great, GREAT series. What a pleasure it was to watch two highest-level teams battle it out, with the last two games literally being moment-to-moment competitions. Watching the ebb and flow of the momentum, and how each team played off of it, was a rare treat. The "spectacle" might have been missing, but the art and science of the game itself was on full display. Liking both teams equally, I'd have been happy whoever won. And as Is aid elsewhere, if the series was 100 games, it could very likely end up 50-50. They're both champions, imo. As for Duncan - hey, besides his game, he brings what us old farts like to call "the intangibles". He sets the vibe for his team, and that vibe is a no-bullshit, stay focused and play or else get the hell out one that can't help but succeed. Even when his game is off, he always contributes something. The intangibles. If I'm building a team from scratch, I'm wanting Tim Duncan on it, no questions asked. Even if he is a turtlehead. Again, congrats to both teams, and I only hope that that their models of team basketball that emphasizes skill over show and focus over folly takes root and spreads throughout the league. For the first time in quite a while, I felt like I was watching two mature teams with nothing on their minds except the task at hand. These were men, dammit, not adolescents masquerading as adults. It felt like a championship series should feel. It felt damn good. Quote
Guy Berger Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 The crazy part is that Duncan is only 29, Ginobili is 27, and Parker is 23. If they don't win at least one more title over the next 5 years, I'll be shocked. Guy Quote

Guy Berger Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Pistons need to add another guy for next year. They need another scorer. I agree -- they need another guy besides Billups who can consistently provide offensive firepower. Hamilton is too limited. Guy Quote
Cali Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Great series between the NBA's two best TEAMS. Duncan deserved the MVP. If you think of one player that either team could not have won without, it's him. He has a complete game, scoring, passing, defence, shot blocking, rebounding and smarts. Even though he was being double and triple teamed by R. Wallace, B. Wallace and at times Prince, his passing and shooting from outside opened up the lane for Ginoboli and prevented Detroit from knocking him on his ass everytime he went to the basket like they did in games 3, 4, and 5. Besides his defense on both Wallaces maybe you noticed Detroit guards got few lay-ups. And his rebounding, Rasheed got one rebound last night. That's huge. Duncan may not be flashy, he just does what it takes to win. Quote
