Boltz

The BOLTZ racks really are expensive, but it's just a matter of getting past the initial purchase. After that, expansion kits are fairly reasonable in cost.

I've just received my second expansion kit and now have a CD1800 -- holds 1800 CDs.

Anyone else do the metal CD racks? I just did a search and all I could find in metal are those small racks that hold 60 or so CDs... and seem ready to topple over at any moment.

I've never been disappointed that I bought BOLTZ.

How about this metal monstrosity. Each shelf holds 57 CDs. Cost? A mere $648.99.

Or this one:

Cost: $329.99

Or this beauty: holds 270 CDs at a cost of $89.99:

Kinda looks like it should have wheels on it for moving it around the public library or from room to room in a medical ward.

Anyway, you might want to check out CD Rack Shoppe. I've never ordered from them but they DO have a lot of racks.

Maybe wood?

I've been pleased as punch with my Ikea Billy shelving with CD inserts...they hold something like 700-800 CDs per unit, are well built, and because of the way the inserts are designed the weight of the CDs won't make the shelves sag (even though they're the usual particle board)...at least mine haven't after about 3 years of continuous use.

If they're going to be placed in a "cosmetically sensitive" area of the house they even have various finishes and the option of frosted glass doors. Last of all, you can get an additional top unit that makes an ideal place to store/display any of the LP-sized boxed set outer covers you have.

Look here for more info/pricing/options: IKEA Billy

I wall mounted mine to eliminate chance of tipping.
