ep1str0phy Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 IIRC, some of the score is printed in the booklet that came with the LP. Yeah (I have a CD copy, but the print is really small). To those who were there--was the Cecil number arranged as on the album? Quote
brownie Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 If anyone knows where a CD copy of this album can be purchased (*), or is selling one, please PM! I'm aching to hear this record. * If buying it directly from ECM in Munich for (approximately) $30 is the only route — well, I guess that's what I'll have to do. When it was available domestically (U.S.), it was around $13. Late, check Amazon.com Quote
erhodes Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 To those who were there--was the Cecil number arranged as on the album? Yes...essentially the same arrangement with no pause between parts 1 and 2. Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 get the music, if you will, but don't try and talk to Mantler, who's a nasty SOB - Quote
brownie Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 don't try and talk to Mantler, who's a nasty SOB - Thomas Bernhard would have said 'typical Austrian'. Quote

Haven't read that one. 'Holzfallen' is the original title. It does not seem to have been translated into French! Quote
Clunky Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Picked up this on LP today, a toss up between this and a Gene Ammon's LP. I left Bad Bossa in the racks on the basis that the Mantler would be more challenging and something new. It's certainly quite challenging. Cecil Taylor seems to get plenty of space in what are forbiddingly impenetrable charts. A quick run through does suggest the need to play loud but what will have to wait till a more suitable time. Guy Berger Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Just listening to this on CD (picked it up as an import from amazon). Wow. The earlier pieces will probably require some more time for absorption but Cyrille and Taylor are out of frickin control (in a good way) in the last two pieces. A masterpiece. Quote
