Red rice (not the New Orleans variety, though I dig that too!)

As for breakfast cereals, there's a bulk item at Central Market I really like, a granola known as "Super Nutty," and when I feel like spending more, there's a Familia box I grab called "Low Fat Granola" . . . . I used to buy Familia "Jungle Crunch" but it's not carried any longer, darnit! Good stuff!

For a long time I was a Grape Nuts person, but I'd get these barley burps in the mid morning that were not fun. And then I tried to be a Skinner Raison Bran man. . . but the granola got me.

GOOD GOD!

For twenty years now, I've been looking for somebody who actually bought this stuff in hopes of understanding why it's on the shelves of every supermarket, in spite of the fact that the shelf space is ALWAYS full!

LOVE the packaging on the that stuff, btw. I'll read the box before putting it back on the shelf.

As long as the word "hydrogenated" doesn't appear, I'll give it a shot. Why they take an otherwise healthy food and fuck it up, I'll never know. And the ones marketed as "healthy" are just as likely to have this deathmix as the junk ones. :angry:

You guys have no idea. I used to be a cereal junkie and I ate all the most wretched, sugar-encrusted crud you could find. I loved it all. Then I became lactose intolerant and every time I ate a bowl of cereal it was like WWII in my stomach. Yes, I've tried soy milk (yuk...) and lactose free milk (same results as with regular milk) so I decided to just give up milk altogether and thus my beloved late-night, after the gig bowl of cereal. I'm a much happier man.

But in my heyday, I ate it all: Booberry, Frankenberry, Count Chocula, Lucky Charms, Golden Grahms, Fruit Loops, Trix, Raisen Bran, Frosted Flakes, Sugar Puffs, Honey Comb, Kellogg Corn Pops (gotta have my pops!), Life, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Puffs, Frosted Mini Wheats, Quaker Oat Squares, Cap'n Crunch, Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Reese's Pieces cereal, Chex (all varieties), Rice Crispies, Cocoa Crispies, etc.

Jim, I'm still lactose tolerant, but in a successful try at lowering my cholesterol so that I didn't have to start taking pills to that end, I eliminated my massive milk habit . . . . And I found I actually really enjoy soy milk, especially with cereals (I can use unflavored freely with the cereals as they flavor the "milk"). I hated it at first, but after a rough month, I LOVE it now.

Yeah, put me down for Uncle Sam cereal too! Downright tasty with soy milk! I dig the little FLAX SEEDS floating about! Gives me the daily dose of Omega 3 acids. :P

Better than Wheaties, and the price is right. I love it drowned in milk. Any time of day.

Good ol' Haferflocken, but I'm with Dan too on this:

Honey Bunches of Oats with any of their fruit versions.

I have a friend from Chicago who's in his 50's who's eaten

nothing but two things regularly since he was a kid:

Plain hamburgers ("with nothing weird - no lettuce, tomato...")

and Chex Cereal. When he visited, I took him to an Italian restaurant

and he didn't recognize anything- never had spaghetti, for instance. :blink:

For a number of my early years I would refuse to eat what Mom cooked for dinner, and I'd have cereal instead. It got to the point that Mom would often tease me and refer to me as her "grain-fed child."

Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs, Golden Grahams, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Corn Pops are among my favorites, but I'm just as happy with Corn Flakes, Cheerios, or Kix.
