John Tapscott Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 (edited) This new Criss Cross CD is one of my favorite new releases of '05. Smoking rhythm section of Joel Weiskopf (p), Paul Gill (b), and Billy Drummond (d) Highly recommended. Edited June 16, 2005 by John Tapscott Quote
montg Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Good to hear positive feedback on this one--coincidentally, I was thinking about picking this up yesterday....I'm sure I'll grab it soon. Weiskopf is one of my favorites among the newer players. "Sleepless Nights" is a GREAT recoridng. Weiskopf doesn't get the hype or recording deals that others ("young lions") have received, but he's more than deserving. Quote
jodigrind Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I saw this band at Smoke a couple weeks ago, and agree that Weiskopf deserves more attention. Mesmerizing solos and great compositions. He is absolutely one of the best in the business. Quote
makpjazz57 Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 John, Can't thank you enough for the "heads up" regarding the Weiskopf/Fusco CD. Immediately visited amazon.com and purchased a copy. I've admired both Weiskopf and Fusco since their days with Buddy Rich's band and also have to highly recommend Andy Fusco's Double-Time CD, "Big Man's Blues." featuring Walt Weiskopf, Renee Rosnes, John Goldsby and Billy Drummond.
