Does anyone know how to do this, possibly by connecting the P.C.'s with an ethernet cable? Will they "see" each other this way ( :alien: )? Is some kind of app required?

Sorry, I'm cluless about this kind of stuff!

Thanks for any assistance!

No that doesn't work. Have a cd writer? WinXP can write discs from within the operating system if you have a writable drive. That's the easiest way.

I believe there are USB cables that enable you to connect two machines that are not on a LAN. Simply plug in on either end and hope Microsoft holds what it promises and all goes without further ado. Probably costs 10$ or so.

It depends on the size of the files, the volume of material in total, and the frequency with which you want to do this.

For small stuff (smaller files, total of less than, say, 1 GB), a USB key (a.k.a. thumb drive, pen drive) would be the way to do it.

For big stuff (like audio files) not transferred that often, you might try an external hard drive.

For frequent transfers on an on-demand basis, your best bet is a permanent connection. The easiest way would be to network the machines with a router.
