Bright Moments Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 (edited) i just discovered the blue note doubletime series with Joe Henderson's The State of the Tenor volumes 1 & 2. "2 cd's one low price" did blue note put out any more doubletime cds? Edited June 11, 2005 by Bright Moments Quote
JSngry Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Yes. Elvin's & Grant's Lighthouse albums come readily to mind. There might've been more, I dunno. Quote
Big Wheel Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 That's funny, I don't recall seeing either of the Lighthouse records as 2fers. Other doubletimes I do remember include Blakey at the Jazz Corner of the World (NOT Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World), and KB's Blue Lights. Did the KD Bohemia records originally come out as a Doubletime? Quote
JSngry Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 That's funny, I don't recall seeing either of the Lighthouse records as 2fers. I might be wrong about the Grant, but I'm pretty sure the Elvin did. Never bought either though, so maybe I'm wrong about both. Wouldn't be the first time... Quote
brownie Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Did the KD Bohemia records originally come out as a Doubletime? ← Pretty sure the answer is No! Wasn't Art Blakey's Orgy in Rhythm released as one of those doubletime CD? Quote
Morganized Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) The only ones that I remember are the: Turrentine....Minton's Henderson...State Blakley........Jazz Corner Burrell.........Blue Lights and of course.......... Hubbard/Morgan...Night of the Cookers Edited June 12, 2005 by Morganized Quote
Big Wheel Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) Orgy in Rhythm was a Connoisseur, and both LPs fit on one CD. I've never spotted copies of the Elvin Lighthouse dates, but it looks like this is also true of the Grant Green sessions. Edit: I think the Green/Sonny Clark sessions were released as doubletimes, though possibly in a different batch from those mentioned. Edited June 12, 2005 by Big Wheel Quote
Alfred Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 GRANT GREEN THE COMPLETE QUARTETS WITH SONNY CLARK Still in print. A great set. Quote
JSngry Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Ok, it seems that Elvin's Lighthouse album was expanded into 2 CDs by adding extra material, but they were released as two separate discs. And of course, you're right about the Grant. My bad. Quote
Alfred Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Here is another one: Don Grolnick - Complete BN sessions Quote
Big Wheel Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 The Ken McIntyre UAs also were released on 2cds, though I'm not 100% sure they were part of the Doubletime "series." Quote
Alfred Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 The Ken McIntyre UAs also were released on 2cds, though I'm not 100% sure they were part of the Doubletime "series." ← They are! Released in 1997. Quote
Ron S Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Not part of the "Doubletime" series (like some of the others previously mentioned), but another Blue Note double-CD still in print is this Conn that I highly recommend: Quote
Ron S Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 And of course, although not originally Blue Note recordings, another great Blue Note 2-CD issue: Quote
brownie Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Looks like this thread is getting off track. The original question referred to BN Doubletime CDs. A specific series. Morganized posted an image of the real thing on his post #7. Others that have been mentioned are plain double (or triple) BN CDs. Not Doubletime ones! Quote
sidewinder Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) The Elvin 'Lighthouse' CDs were definitely issued as 2 separate CDs by BN around 1989 (ish). I have Vol 1 of this (now superseded by the Mosaic). Other 'Doubletimes' include, I think, the Stan Kenton 'Innovations' set ( ). As mentioned previously the McIntyre was also a 2CD Doubletime, probably my favourite of these. Just recently picked up the Grolnick ( ). Hiding in the shelves in a London store until I spotted it. Two great sessions on that one. HMV have also been selling some of the 2CD sets at £4.99, including the Dorham, the Burrell and the Green/Clark. Bargain of the century ! king ubu Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 This one may have been forgotten so far since everybody replaced it with the RVG (that had the other colour scheme used as front cover): (Btw: am I the only one with non-functioning buttons??? No links, images, bold type etc. works, can only do it by entering the codes by hand!) Quote

king ubu Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 (edited) Well, a second "run" of releases had the "Doubletime" thing inside of the traycard - much less ugly... these include the McIntyre, the Byrd/Adams, the Grolnick, the Green/Clark... maybe I forget some. There were a bunch of non Doubletime 2CD reissues, too, which include: - KD Bohemia - Woody Shaw (that 2CD set with Geri Allen) - Woody Shaw/Fredie Hubbard - Ben Webster Amsterdam Sessions - Lester Young Aladdin Recordings As far as I think, the Innovations Kenton was not a Doubletime release, rather one for this above list. Again I presumably miss a few that came out in the same timeframe. The only release with the ugly "Doubletime" in front, in addition to the ones in the previous post, was "State of the Tenor", no?
