Kalo Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 (edited) Years ago I saw a newspaper add for a record store that was having a sale on the Columbia Records jazz catalogue. Beneath a tiny reproduction of the cover of Erroll Garner's Concert by the Sea they had a line of type that read: EARL GARDNER--CONCEPT BY THE SEA. Not discographical, but still funny (though not that funny). Edited June 8, 2005 by Kalo Quote
andybleaden Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 the spelling on the cover of Sam Rivers' "Fuchsia Swing Song" is correct: ← Yeah, but the colour is all wrong! ← ← I think we may have a arguement with the knitters on this http://www.personalthreads.com/newsite/detail.cfm?ID=12235 Item Name: Kureyon 148 Brown Fuschia Rust Quote

Ken Dryden Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 (edited) How about "McCoy Turner" listed on piano on one of John Coltrane's early Impulse LPs... My favorite typo, evidently since corrected in later editions, was on Will Calhoun's Live at the Blue Note. McCoy Tyner's "Passion Dance" was listed as Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance." And the poor guy who covered it in a Jazz Times corner piece evidently didn't know the difference. Another huge blooper was on The Paris All Stars: Homage to Charlie Parker. The opening track was labeled "Birks' Works" and it was actually "Steeplechase." Nearly every review I've seen of this release catches this error. Edited April 10, 2006 by Ken Dryden Quote
Guest Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 In a small CD/Record store I bought a cheap Duke Ellington CD. As I was paying for it the cute young counter girl was laughing. I asked why. She showed me the cover on the CD. The picture was of Count Basie. Quote
Guest Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Bob Crenshaw played bass on the front of "The Sidewinder", but Bob Cranshaw played on the back of it. I always found it interesting that they didn't fix that in later pressings. Quote
Kyo Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 How about "McCoy Turner" listed on piano on one of John Coltrane's early Impulse LPs... Incidentally I just received several albums by this mysterious "McCoy Turner", at least according to the spines of six of his Milestone albums (current Universal reprints). Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 For a time, Amazon listed jazz pianist Aki Takase's Clapping Music CD as "Crapping Music." Quote
ejp626 Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 I think there's a more recent thread, but this is what I turned up. Looking at the back of James Moody's Moving Forward on Novus, the piano bench is filled by Kenny Darron. This is actually repeated again on the inside in the liner notes (such as they are). Quote
