Clunky Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Got my copy yesterday (alongside Von Freeman and Fred Anderson discs). I← You'll enjoy both those two too. I got "Serenade and Blues" , Serge Chaloff 1950, Dodo Marmarosa 1958- at the same time as the Diz/Bird set and quite simply they're fabulous discs. The Freeman has really added to my grasp of his unique idiom (only other disc I have is "Have no fear.."). Quote
EKE BBB Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 The Freeman has really added to my grasp of his unique idiom (only other disc I have is "Have no fear.."). ← Yes! (sadly "Have no fear" is now OOP ) And for recent Von Freeman, I also have a couple of discs (the one with Frank Catalano and "The great divide") and a pair of concert recordings (included one with the Andrew Hill Trio) and, in his eighties, the man can PLAY!!! Clunky Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Chuck what other Uptown etc. vinyl do you have for sale ? ← No time to make a comprehensive list right now. I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow night/Friday morning. I will compile a detailed one (not very long) when I return. I'll be back on the 20th. It would be wise to remind me at that time. ← Quote
MartyJazz Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 (edited) Diz and Bird at Town Hall. Today marks the 60th anniversary of this terrific performance. Much thanks again to all who were involved in this marvelous and, to my ears, essential release. Edited June 22, 2005 by MartyJazz Quote

mgraham333 Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 In honor of the occasion I listened to it last night. What a wonderful event that must have been. I was born at the wrong time... Quote
JSngry Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 OTOH, if you had been born at the right time, you'd have only gotten to have heard it once, at most, and might well be dead by now. Quote
