EKE BBB Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 While doing a small research on discs by non-Spanish jazz musicians recorded on Madrid, I discovered these 1979 recordings by Bill Evans´ trio with Marc Johnson and Joe LaBarbera at the now defunct Balboa Jazz Club, that I had not previously heard about: * Bill Evans Trio Live at Balboa Jazz Club, Vol. 1-5 [ivory (Portugal)] ILP 3000/01/02/03/04 To my knowledge, only part of that LP material (volumes 1, 2 and 3, from December 12, 1979) has been reissued on CD as: * Bill Evans Trio Live at Balboa Jazz Club, Vol. 1-2 [Jazz Lab (Swt)] JLCD 4/5 How good is this stuff? Is it available anywhere? Thanks in advance, Agustín Quote

Bill B Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I purchased a copy from Ejazzlines. Hopefilly they will release the material from 11 Dec. which includes a rare live version of "Jesus Last Ballad". Quote
brownie Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) The back covers of the two Portuguese LPs (Ivory 3000/3001) I have indicate these were 'limited edition - only for collectors'. Pretty good stuff but not right up to the brillance of the two Paris concerts recorded a couple of weeks later at the Espace Cardin and released on Elektra Musician. Never saw vol. 3 and unaware of further volumes... Edited June 1, 2005 by brownie Quote

Jerry Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 The playing is good but the sound quality not too good on the cd. There are a lot of better recordings from this period. Quote
