Brandon Burke Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 My #1 vote goes to... Kramer - Let Me Explain Something to You About Art Honorable mention: Halfway to a Threeway by Jim O'Rourke Quote
Big Al Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Joe Maneri: Let the Horse Go & Get To Receive Yourself ← Uh, Steve, you feelin' alright? I mean, I hate to point this out, but this is sorta like Lucy reminding Schroeder that he missed Beethoven's birthday.... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 (edited) Man B, that is a good one - the cover says it all! And for the Gibby Haynes fanatics out there, lest we forget "Hairway to Steven!" Edited May 20, 2005 by clifford_thornton Quote
Aggie87 Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 A couple from the rock world: REO Speedwagon - You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can't Tuna Fish Joe Walsh - The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get Joe Walsh - You Bought It, You Name It Chicago - Chicago VIII (*self dignity preservation mode on* I own none of these, by the way) Quote

Noj Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Portishead - Dummy Beck - Odelay ...and how 'bout: Quote
joeface Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 this is the topper for me, only because of how the album title completes the band name band name: I Farm album title: So My Kids Won't Have to Quote
nemo7 Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 jackie-o motherfucker alchemy-shit to gold Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Sorry to get "serious" but I think Roscoe Mitchell's "Sound" kills the funny stuff. Quote
Johnny E Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 I'm kinda fond of David Crosby's "If I could Only Remember My Name" Also, Neil Young - "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere" Grateful Dead - "Aoxomoxoa" Jimi Hendrix - "Axis: Bold as Love" Jefferson Airplane - "After Bathing at Baxter's" Psychedelic rock bands tended to have good ones. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Taking Chuck's serious cue, I think as statements of intent, alongside 'Sound', 'This is Our Music' and 'Change of the Century' are hard to beat... My unhelpful suggestion: McClusky's 'The Difference Between You and Me is that I'm not on Fire' is pretty good. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Yeah, Sound is a wonderful album title - especially considering the era and the aesthetic the AACM were going for. Also good is Levels and Degrees of Light (which, by the way, is a motherfucker of a record). Other serious(ly) good album titles: Sonny Sharrock - Black Woman Frank Wright - Uhuru Na Umoja Bill Dixon - Intents and Purposes And I've always been slayed by Afrodisiaca - both the title and the cover concept, not to mention the music... JSngry Posted May 21, 2005 Author Report Posted May 21, 2005 Sound is indeed one TuffAss title. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Also good is Levels and Degrees of Light (which, by the way, is a motherfucker of a record). Too right - listening to it right now, and it's incredible. I love Muhal's piano playing. Quote
gslade Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Alan Shorter Orgasm yet Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Bill Dixon - Intents and Purposes For some silly reason I've always referred to this record as "In Tents With Porpoises". This thread inspired me to play said Dixon date. Quote
JSngry Posted May 22, 2005 Author Report Posted May 22, 2005 I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Alan Shorter Orgasm yet ← Another TuffAss title. Quote
JSngry Posted May 28, 2005 Author Report Posted May 28, 2005 Tuff Ass Jazz now has some serious competition: Quote

Jazzmoose Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Roscoe Mitchell - More Cutouts Nick Lowe - Pure Pop for Now People Marshall Crenshaw - Mary Jean & 9 Others Rockpile - Seconds of Pleasure John Scofield - Shinola and, of course, Chicago XIV ← Sorry, but Pure Pop for Now People is totally ineligible since the original title Jesus of Cool is superior in every way.
