I know we've talked once before on this board about this, but I'd like to return to it if I may.

There was apparently a German filmaker who made a 90 minute documentary of Jimmy Smith's 1965 tour of Germany. It was called "James O. Smith, Organist" I believe.

Has anybody ever seen this or heard of it's existence in a commercial way?

The entry for this 1965 film in David Meeker's 'Jazz In The Movies' indicates it's 97 minutes long. Brief comment says:

'Documentary on organist Jimmy Smith produced while he was touring Europe and the USA.'

Never saw that one...

You may try sending this guy an email - he's got his jazz films list online, and the Smith is listed on DVD-R. In case he does not understand English, I could try anc contact him (I'd be interested in getting a copy, too, but I'm afrain I don't have much that this fellow does not already own...)

Ahhh!!! King Ubu comes through! I tried his email link but it wouldn't come through. The list link did work. Wow, what a list. Perhaps at least one of us would have something he would want to trade with and then go from there.

Interesting thread. I've often wondered about a 2 minute snippet of Jimmy Smith film I have on video which looks as though it comes from this vintage, seems to have the same lineup and was included on a BBC TV show hosted by Slim Gaillard. Tantalising glimpse of Jimmy in his prime - I would love to see the full film.
