JohnS Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Help keep this thread going. PM with your name and nomination. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Well if they continue to go like the current one, I think the fate of AOTW is already determined. -_- Quote
JohnS Posted May 16, 2005 Author Report Posted May 16, 2005 Can we re-do an AOTW? Of course. Feel free. Quote
JohnS Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 Getting low on volunteers to nominate AOTW. Use it ot loose it. It looks like I'll be moving house in the next week or so I'm likely to be off line for several days, so if you want to get involved PM me NOW. Quote
Soul Stream Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 I know there's been a lag in the AOW. But I think it's a very worthy endeavor. I often will use it as a library, to read up on a CD I'm interested in purchasing. Or just to read other's thoughts on an album I'm into. So...my fellow organissimos...now's the time for all good men to step forward... Quote
Joe G Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Or women! I don't recall maren or patricia ever hosting one... Quote
JohnS Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 All welcome, one so far, thanks to fent99 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Well if they continue to go like the current one, I think the fate of AOTW is already determined. -_- ← Well dude, I know I shouldn't lambast others' ideas, but it helps to pick a crucial title in someone's discography, or something by an artist who hasn't got maybe as many props as he/she should have. Village Gate would have got a lot more props, I think. Just some advice. By the same token, I'd never pick something nobody's heard of, so it goes the other way too - believe me, I've been tempted to mention Huseyin Ertunc many a time. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 shoulda picked "stone flute". people who know it would like it and those that dont know it would have found a new respect or a new side of mann's music. Quote
alejo Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Hello John, Just sent you a PM with my nomination. Thanks! Alejandro Quote
Nate Dorward Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Well, I'd do one again if anyone's interested. Immediate thoughts are to do something by Ahmad Jamal (maybe The Awakening which I just picked up) or Mary Lou Williams (just picked up the trio version of The Zodiac Suite). First thoughts, anyway, in case anyone has druthers; it'd also be nice to know how many people actually owned these discs or were interested in picking them up. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 or Mary Lou Williams (just picked up the trio version of The Zodiac Suite). ← Trio?!? I can hardly hear the drums on my Folkways LP! Quote
Nate Dorward Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 Get the Smithsonian remaster, it's got a pile of bonus tracks, & they've done what they can to improve the original sound. It's crackly but perfectly fine. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Hm, so am I doing an AOTW? The pinned list's unchanged. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted July 2, 2005 Report Posted July 2, 2005 John--thanks. Now I just gotta settle on a suitable disc..... Quote
JohnS Posted August 16, 2005 Author Report Posted August 16, 2005 First aplologies for my absence from the board for the last few weeks. Now my regular plea for volunteers - we are rapidly running out of names again so if thread is to continue PM with your name and I'll add you to the list of upcoming posters. New board members, all you need to do is PM me to get on the list then select an album of your choice, post the title with a few comments around the date listed. That's all ther is to it. Quote
JohnS Posted September 24, 2005 Author Report Posted September 24, 2005 Well we've run out of volunteers . Looks like this might have to carry on as an occasional feature from now on. However, to keep some order if it's needed I'm happy to carry on taking care of things. There are no rules for AOTW , if you want to volunteer to nominate a recording for discussion just PM me and I'll list you into the next available slot. Simple as that. Quote
