ejp626 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 There's a science fiction story with a similar premise -- 10 minutes until the world is destroyed. Harlan Ellison, I think. The main character chooses Saeta off Sketches of Spain. This was enough to get me to seek out the album. My brain sort of short circuits when I have to think about the last thing I would ever hear. Hopefully "April Fool." Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2005 Author Report Posted May 9, 2005 ...look damnit...your wives and babies aren't around in my scenario!!! and neither is a cd of them snuggling (man, you guys a wimpin' on me)! just pick a dang CD and quit getting so McGyver meets Alan Alda on me. Quote
Claude Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 There's a science fiction story with a similar premise -- 10 minutes until the world is destroyed. And there is Douglas Adams' "Restaurant at the end of the universe", where the end of the world can be enjoyed every evening. "The End of the Universe is very popular, people like to dress up for it. Gives it a sense of occasion." http://www.workinghumor.com/quotes/restaurant.shtml Quote
John Tapscott Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Hank Mobley's Roll Call, and not only because of the music! Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2005 Author Report Posted May 9, 2005 Trying to tell us something SoulStream? Yeah...pick an album damnit! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 The last 60 minutes of Gotterdammerung. Bugger! Someone misfiled 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' in the case. Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2005 Author Report Posted May 9, 2005 O.k...I can see this isn't working. Let me put it this way.... What's your mostest favoritist album! Quote
DTMX Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 No, I'm going with the orginal question. The last recording I would listen to before the big dirtnap would be G Force, by Kenny G. Death would be a blessing. Quote
ejp626 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I would probably go with Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. Lots of different versions of this, but I like the DG album with Barenboim on piano. (This would leave me with 10 minutes or so, so perhaps I would also listen to Saeta just like that character did.) Quote
Guy Berger Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I dunno. Most probably Filles de Kilimanjaro (Miles Davis), though I don't know whether I'd put "Mademoiselle Mabry" on repeat the whole time or listen to the entire album. Guy Quote
sidewinder Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Either 'Agharta' or 'Dark Magus' with the volume cranked up full. The inner sleeve of 'Agharta' would be suitable reading matter.. Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Anything by Liza Minnelli. Death would then be a happy experience. Quote
patricia Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) To get me in the right "up" mood to go, I'd like to hear "Dixieland - Chicago Style, my favourite Jazztone album, which featured Pee Wee Russell [my man], along with Max Kaminsky, Miff Mole, Joe Sullivan, Jack Lashery and with the fabulous George Wettling on drums. As I make my final exit, looking fabulous, "Soft" by Bill Doggett will be spinning on the turntable and, if I plan this properly, "Harlem Nocturne" will be the last thing I hear as I hurl over the ABYSS. But, I don't intend to die anytime soon. Edited May 10, 2005 by patricia Quote

mikeweil Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 No chance to listen quietly as my wife would complain that I didn't select one of her favourites - well, Pres' trio ballads would work with her. Quote
gslade Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 If this is the end, I'll stick to Lester Young's version of 'These Foolish Things' on Aladdin and spin it endlessly... I'll second that Quote
Jazz Kat Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I don't know if I could listen to it happily. How am we dying, exactly?? Quote

Spontooneous Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 How am we dying, exactly?? Potentially the best Organissimo poll question ever! Quote
RDK Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python. Quote
RDK Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Seriously, if I only had one album - and not a comp - I'd probably have to go with "Highway 61 Revisited." I'd go with "Blonde on Blonde," but I only have an hour... Quote
