Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 You got 1 hour to live. You're locked in a listening both and instead of a last meal, you get to listen to 1 CD or LP for the last time. What's your pick? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) Limiting myself to a single disc, I'd pick one of these depending on my whim (?) of the moment. They'd have to be compilations by the strict definition of the word. Edited May 9, 2005 by Chuck Nessa Quote
wolff Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Whatever the woman I get into the listening booth with me wants to listen to. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 My wife complain. If that's what she wants to do, that would be my choice as well. But, getting into the spirit of the question, I don't know, but off the top of my head, probably Soul Station. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Er...let me clarify that; I want to hear my wife, not Hardbop's! Quote
Big Al Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Phil Keaggy's self-titled album from '96, cuz right at an hour would be the way I want to go. Plus, it was the last good album he put out anyway, so..... Quote
BbM7 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Charley Patton. Probably. H3ll, it's a bit tough to predict my frame of mind under such circumstances. Quote
Kalo Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Can't decide between Bach solo cello suites and Blanton/Webster Era Ellington. Quote
brownie Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 If this is the end, I'll stick to Lester Young's version of 'These Foolish Things' on Aladdin and spin it endlessly... Quote
Brandon Burke Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 If it were a 45 booth I'd say either "This is Where I Belong" by the Kinks or Robert Wyatt's version of "Shipbuilding". Since we're taling about LPs here, I'd probably go with Love Me Forever by Carlton & the Shoes. Not a jazz pick but heavenly all the same. Quote
EKE BBB Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Some Duke Ellington, some Tete Montoliu, some Old Testament Count Basie and some Art Tatum (solo piano). Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I'd listen to a recording of my wife and baby together. Some things are better than music. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I'd listen to a recording of my wife and baby together. Some things are better than music. I agree. Quote
catesta Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Tough choice. More than likely something by Ellington. Quote
tonym Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I'd start off with Getz/Gilberto. Play it once through then stick 'O Grande Amor' on repeat play until the death knell. All the time masturbating furiously, belt around neck and golfball in gob. Well, it's as good a time as any Quote
jazzbo Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) An hour to live. . . I'll spend it with my wife and not my music collection. If for some odd reason I found myself in such a ridiculous situation as to be in a listening booth I'd try to get out of it and think of her if I could not. Edited May 9, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
king ubu Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I'd start off with Getz/Gilberto. Play it once through then stick 'O Grande Amor' on repeat play until the death knell. All the time masturbating furiously, belt around neck and golfball in gob. Well, it's as good a time as any anyone seen Assi Dayan's great film "The 92 minutes of Mr. Baum"? The plot's quite simple: Mr. Baum is told, at the beginning of the film, that he has about 92 minutes to live. After 92 minutes, obviously, he dies... hilarious film that has a great humour and is sort of kafkaesk (remember Kafka used to laugh out loud when reading his texts...) Quote
Brownian Motion Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I don't much care for the premise of this thread. I'd like to hear Pops 1936 recording of Mahogany Hall Stomp. It electrified me when I was 12, and it still electrifies me today. Quote
Brad Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 With an hour to live, I'm with Lon, music is the last thing I'll be thinking about. I'll probably be running around screaming my bloody head off! Quote
