This work entitled "Jammin' on the Avenue" was made by John Spaulding (James' brother) several years ago and is located at the entrance of Lockfield Gardens Apartments in Indianapolis. Lockfield Gardens was build in 1936 as a PWA project to provide low income housing for African Americans in Indianapolis. This area (Indiana Avenue) was the life blood of jazz in the 20's, 30's and 40's. It's where Wes Montgomery as well as the other Indiana greats would play and where most of the visiting musicians would gravitate to when their gig were over. Over the past several years, this area has really come alive and is a nice area to check out if you're pass through. Other attractions in the area are the Madame Walker Theatre, IUPUI University, The Indiana Historical Society, the Zoo, Victory Field(home of the Triple A Indianapolis Indians), the Eitlejorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, The NCAA Hall of Champions and Military Park (home of the Indy Jazz Fest).
