kh1958
August 10-11, 2018 at Cezanne in Houston. Arnett Cobb Birthday Celebration!! Arnett Cleophus Cobb (August 10, 1918 – March 24, 1989) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, sometimes known as the "Wild Man of the Tenor Sax" because of his uninhibited stomping style (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnett_Cobb). Arnett is one of the pillars of Houston's music legacy. We celebrate all weekend with musicians deeply connected to Mr. Cobb including Carl Lott (drums), Shelley Carrol (tenor sax), Clayton Dyess (guitar) as well as special guest pianist, Sorin Zlat (from Romania) and more. Please join us for this festive weekend of music!

kh1958
MILFORD GRAVES FULL MANTIS This new documentary illuminates the life, music, and philosophies of renowned drummer/percussionist Milford Graves. Since the 1960s, Graves (born 1941) has performed internationally with free-jazz luminaries such as Albert Ayler and Sonny Sharrock. Milford Graves Full Mantis takes viewers into Graves's Queens home to meet the relentlessly curious artist. His ruminations on life, nature, and the fluidity of rhythm are intercut with archival performance footage-including a European concert and an ecstatic happening at a Japanese school. kh1958
I have ascertained the first benefit to my recent (60th) birthday... Da Camera defines 60 as a senior citizen, so tickets to see Lonnie Smith and Chucho Valdes are half price.

The 18/19 Da Camera jazz series will instead open with Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison. https://www.dacamera.com/programming-change-nea-jazz-master-jack-dejohnette-open-1819-jazz-series/
