I'm marginally interested in the Sandoval concert, but not at $35/ticket.

I saw Arturo Sandoval once about ten years ago at Jazz Alley in Seattle; it was decent. I might go again.

Coming up this Thursday night (July 26) WD-41 (Dave Laczko, trumpet, and Willie Oteri, guitar) are hosting the evening of music at Kenny Dorham's Back Yard in Austin (11th St, right next to Victory Grill). They will have a set starting at 7:30 and then have other avant garde and jazz artists sitting in with them and performing sets. Should be hot. . . and fun.

Received an email from Nameless Sound the other day. Roscoe Mitchell will be doing a week's residency in Houston in late March, culminating in an awards gala on March 28.

kh,

Thanks for the info. Most tickets to Wynton are $68 each! No thanks!

The old price/demand ratio. I might go if it were in the $5-10 range. The last time I saw Wynton, quite a few years back at McFarlin Auditorium, was mighty boring, I do recall.

Greg Osby, March 19 at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton.

Wow. With his band or a local group?

Don't know. His website has not been updated, and the Dans Silverleaf website gives no information.

Especially if.

Or if he wants to go back to his M-Base stuff, there's a core of local players who could really nail that stuff with enough lead time.

I'd rather hear that than some straight-ahead "jamming", if you know what I mean.

I saw Osby years ago at a club in Deep Ellum. He was part of a Blue Note all-star band with Stephon Harris, Jason Moran, and others whose names I've forgotten. The whole crew couldn't have been more disinterested, with the exception of Harris. Still, I'm interested in going...

I've seen him several times, actually, and he's been consistently good--back in the late 1980s at the Caravan with Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition, paired with Gary Thomas; with his quartet with Jason Moran at a Blue Note concert in New York around 1998 (by far the best set of the concert), and a couple of times at the Village Vanguard and Jazz Standard with his own bands in the last ten years or so,

The Roscoe residency includes a duo concert with Alvin Fielder. This will be their first time playing together since 1969.
