robviti Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 here's my write-in candidate: for the youngsters, that's john mitchell, nixon's attorney general who was convicted of conspiracy and other charges connected to Watergate. Quote
JSngry Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 HAd to vote for Roscoe, but where's Whitey? Quote
JSngry Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 You have no idea of how hard it was to ask that in a serious fashion, what with Joni being on the list... Quote
tonym Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 adopt mockney-cockney voice Grant or Phil. It's faaahhh-mily. Quote

SEK Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 These days, I listen most often to Roscoe, but I have more recordings with Mitch Mitchell. However, Joni got my vote, because I really dug her early records ("Song To A Seagull" through "For The Roses") as they appeared, and those records still move me (nostalgia mostly, I suppose...), and the woman was and is fine. Dan Gould Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 Blue is my vote, but I hope Billy Mitchell gets a few, too. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Man, Billy Mitchell is just a punk with none of the charisma of Phil or Grant. And hey, what about Sam and Peggy or Jamie? Yes, EastEnders hits in 2 hours here. Mike Quote
marcello Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Billy Mitchell - The Colossus Of Detroit - 1978 Xanadu 158 A great, great recording. Billy Mitchell ts (Barry Harris p, Sam Jones b, Walter Bolden d) Quote
jazzbo Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Lots of great Mitchells on that list. I'd go with Mitch though for me. A drumming influence. Quote
Free For All Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 (edited) I'll vote for Billy Mitchell just 'cause I think he might not get a lot of votes. When I first joined Woody's band in 1984 we went to Europe (my first trip overseas) and took with us Billy Mitchell, Bill Perkins, Sal Nistico and Zoot Sims . Billy was a last-minute sub for someone else- he did play with the Herd, but was not as well known as the others (as far as history with the band). At the time I was fairly naive as to how heavy these guys were- by the end of the trip I was EDUCATED! The cats was BLOWNIN'!! ..and I do like Joni Mitchell, I'm not afraid to say it! They have it available for download on eMusic, so I'll be putting that in my "Save for later" file, PRONTO! B-) Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Had to go with Roscoe, but I do like Joni! Quote
Big Al Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Some more love for Billy! Gotta love the cover of "This is..." cuz it is literally smokin', just like the music! Quote
alejo Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Another vote for Roscoe. Just tried Mitchell's Ice Cream for the first time last Tuesday...amazing stuff. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Didn't vote 'cause of my obvious "conflict". If he had been listed, I might have voted for George Mitchell (for historical reasons). Quote
