Alfred Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I have the KING LP which sounds fantastic (KING LPs normally do! ). This session is a good one, but not his best on CONTEMPORARY. To swing or not to swing (C3513) and Music to listen to (Vol. 4) (C3521) are my favorites. The before mentioned Feeling free (C3618) is also great. Quote
BruceH Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 There are three other not yet mentioned that I also prefer. "Lets Cook" with players such as Ben Webster, Frank Rosolino, Victor Feldman, Hampton Hawes and Jimmy Rowles is one of my favorites. I am also very partial to "Red Hot And Blues" with Kenny Barron, Bobby Hutcherson, Rufus Reid, and Ben Riley. ← Man, I haven't even SEEN those! The lineup on Let's Cook looks unbeatable. I have two of the "Poll Winners" and like them a lot. And as someone mentioned, Some Like It Hot is a real gem. Will have to get the Standards album one of these days. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I've heard OF it, but never heard it. Kessel's one of those artists I keep telling myself I need to get CDs of, but never actually do it. Shame on me! -_- ← Same here - well, almost: have Vol. 1 on LP, but never got around to move on ..... too much good music and not enough money to buy it all. Quote
Ron S Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I now have almost all of Kessel's Contemporary CDs, including all the Poll Winners, but haven't played any of them in several months. I need to work some into the rotation--always enjoyable listening. Quote
