Peter Johnson Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 Just switched to cable (from DSL) today. Whooo-AHHHHH!!! Way faster!!! I'm using Millenium out in Seattle. Bought a Motorola cable modem/wireless all in one. I'm not looking back! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 Heck, I just switched from dial-up to DSL a couple o' months ago; I'll wait until I adjust to this before trying cable... Quote
White Lightning Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 DSL. Tried it while leaving in DC and got hooked... My provider in Israel is called "Netvision" Quote
brownie Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 DSL fan for more than one year! (Tele2 - which I think is Swedish-owned is the provider) Made a massive difference from dialup! Quote
EKE BBB Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 Slow-as-the-baddie´s-horse dial-up connection. Provider: Telefónica. Quote
gdogus Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 (edited) I've gone from cable to DSL and back again over the last few years. Currently on a cable modem through Comcast. It's definitely faster than DSL in my area. Edited May 4, 2005 by gdogus Quote
Aggie87 Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 I'm using cable. I have Time-Warner's "Roadrunner" service, which is quick, but unfortunately I think they're a little on the expensive side for home use. The other cable provider here in town (Grande) offers the same service & speed, but is less expensive. Unfortunately they also don't service my apartment complex, so I'm stuck with Roadrunner. Definitely can't complain about the speed, though! I had a paradigm shift when I returned to Texas a while ago, and no longer have a home telephone (only use a cell phone). One less bill to worry about, for a service that I no longer need. Because of that DSL is not even something I'd consider anyway. Quote
kinuta Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 (edited) Here on the outer fringes far from the English speaking world I wasn't conversant with the term ' dsl' but that's what I have. We use the Japanese NTT Flets system touted to be the worlds fastest, as I speak the speed is running at 100.00 Mbps. That seems to be the norm here in Tokyo but it would appear that the rest of the world runs a little slower. Anyhow it's fast, very, very fast. I use a Sony VIAO desk top. ps we pay about $25.00 a month for unlimited use, how does that compare with you guys ? Edited May 4, 2005 by kinuta Quote
Christiern Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 I use Roadrunner cable service, which is a lot faster than the 300 baud I started out with (in the dark ages)--hell, it's better than anything else I have tried. Aggie is right, however, it is way over-priced. Quote
LennyH Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 I have 1.5MB DSL and am happy with it. I pay $29.95/mo. Cable in my area is $43.00. I can't really justify the change. My friend, here in the Philly area, lives in one of the 2 areas where Verizon is testing faster DSL. Next week he'll have 15MB for $38/Mo.!! Quote

One area is in Chester County, somewhere towards Coatesville. Can't remember the other. I think it might be in South Jersey. Jazzmoose Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 ...which is a lot faster than the 300 baud I started out with (in the dark ages)... Oh wow...I remember those days...download the AP sportswire as fast as I could and then get off because I was charged by the minute... Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 DSL from BellSouth. Not sure how much, my wife pays the bill. Cable isn't an option because we have DirectTV; and when we checked on their Satelite service we realized that this was really designed for people in the sticks who are never going to see Cable or DSL, so they got them where they want them and charge them like $75 a month or something outrageous like that. I think ours is in the $30-40 range. Speed is decent, but it ain't 100MBPS! Usually 3.5. So it works out well, in the time it takes to download porn, I go stock up on junk food. Quote
rachel Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 Cable at home, and a T-1 at the office. same here. Unfortunately, at work we are limited to 'work-related internet usage only...' So for the fun stuff I have to use my PC phone, a tad slow but I can get most anywhere on the net w/it. Quote
Tjazz Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 just pickup a wireless connection from your neighbor Quote
