Help me sort this out.

For lack of space in my house, I have decided to skip the Jack Johnson box. However, I am buying a few tunes on iTunes, including those that were on the original Directions LP. I have bought the two takes of 'Duran' and 'Konda' so far.

I tried to match the contents on iTunes to the listing on the Pete Losin site (Miles Ahead), but I want to make sure I got it right.

1. The version of 'Willie Nelson' that was on Directions is remake take 2, from 2/27/70, correct?

2. Take 3 of 'Willie Nelson' is actually the second half of 'Yesternow' from the JJ LP, correct?

And some recommendations:

If I were to choose only one take of 'Johnny Bratton', 'Ali', 'Little High People' and 'The Mask', which would you suggest?

Thanks,

Bertrand.

Hi Bertrand.

Take 3 was used for over 4 minutes of Yesternow.

Take 2 of Willie had 2 inserts taken from it and put into Yesternow.

Get back to you on the rest. :tup

edited as I'm sat here listening to it.

You must have a very small house. If you could throw out an empty Cream of Wheat box and fit 2 Miles boxes in, screw you - not a reasonable excuse.

In fact, Bertrand lives inside said Cream of Wheat box -- hence, no room. ;)

Apparently, I need an excuse to justify not purchasing a box set full of filler, as was pointed out on this very forum by our own Mr. Nessa.

I have a living room full of CDs, and only want to buy a limited amount of box sets which do take up a considerable amount of space on my CD shelf, as opposed to the single CDs. Some box sets are no-brainers, this one was not - as much as I love the Jack Johnson LP itself, I decided that I don't need all the rehearsal stuff. I just want a few tracks, and iTunes offers a reasonable, legal way of achieving this goal.

I'm almost 42. I've got maybe what, 30 years left to go? I'm just rational enough to realize the limitations of how much music I can actually listen to in that time. I've already got enough music to last me until then. And yet I will buy more. But not everything that comes out. I just can't keep up.

P.S.

This whole argument would not have existed if I had written my original statement more carefully to read 'for lack of space on my CD shelf, which already takes up a healthy chunk of my living room'.

Perhaps I need to carefully edit all my posts from now on. It is well known that the internet is highly demanding in this respect, and I have been freeloading so far with my barely literate rantings. But all this will change now, the netiquette police is on to me.

I've got my Jack Johnson box playing as I type these words. I recommend you make room for the box. B-)

When my mood is right I enjoy the box very much. The Willie Nelson tunes get a little redundant. Still the Nelsons are fun to listen to. Every version is different from the other. The set is a snapshot in time of what Miles was doing at the time. I enjoy listening to each piece. I enjoy the way the music flows from one form to the next. Sometimes expected and sometimes not.

The Jack Johnson box offers a very goovy, quirky, funky, jazzy, and Miles-laden version of Miles. It's as if you had the chance to listen in on Miles in the studio and you indulged yourself.

Play the Jack Johnson box, enjoy the adult beverage of your choice, let your mind wander, gather postive vibes, relax, enjoy, listen and learn... life is good.

Yes, likewise to Wes, I won't be much help. I actually prefer all the additional material to the original Jack Johnson lp by a margin--if asked I would give up that final disc before any other. As Wes does I enjoy the flow of the sessions and the variety. The Pascoal and "The Mask" pieces are my favorites, but I really dig the different takes of "Willie Nelson" etc.

At yourmusic.com prices I'd recommend the box set and find the space, though I know you're already on your different course.

Good sentiments - I'll second that.

Like all of the MD box sets, I find that this one is indispensible. Informative booklet too !
