brownie Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Ubu, the Artie Shaw 10CD box that is being discussed is on that list: http://www.membran.net/db_php/index.php?ac...d29af7f56b0c41# They have already two new jazz boxes (Duke and Billie) in the last few days! Quote
couw Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Yeah, but they charge 8.50 € for shipping, no matter how many items I order. Amazon has free shipping to Switzerland with all orders from 20 € upwards, thus... I'll add another of the soon-to-be-OOP LPRs (or that hipnosis thing - paging couw!!!) and that's cheaper, than, all together. ← you better get "that hipnosis thing" through a private seller Quote
king ubu Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Thanks brownie! Now I checked... 2001 want € 18.50 (don't need to check that), JPC is € 17, and Amazon (assuming I'll add something else) is € 15.50. Thus again, do you think the thing I linked to above is the right one? Date of release and title do match, at least, it's just the label that is a bit irritating! Quote
brownie Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 The Amazon.de link you posted shows a 4CD box from Artie Shaw (if my reading of german is not too bad!). That's not the one! Quote
neveronfriday Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 (edited) I did check that time (can't remember how) and it is that box. king ubu Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Thanks Mr. never - just ordered! Added Vol. 3 of the Lunceford MoJ discs - not sure they'll be able to deliver that one, but if, it's cool, if not they still don't charge shipping, even if the total value then falls below 20 €. brownie: that 4 CDs is a special sale (buy 4 CDs for 20 €, but only crap on that list). neveronfriday Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Got myself the Duke Ellington as well, just for the hell of it. Hell = 1 Euro on eBay. Quote

You better not mention Ellington. EKE might get tempted to buy another Ellington box set. He must be the leading Ellington expert on this board board (when it comes to amount of cds he must have already) Quote

Hell = 1 Euro on eBay. ← The "label" is really rollin' out those 10-CD boxes: List New (I think): Goodman Parker Reinhardt Fitzgerald Waller Armstrong My problem is that I probably have 50% to 100% of all the stuff, but I might still go for them. BTW: these have been regularly fetching prices around Euro 20 and more although they can all be had from JPC (Germany) for 9.99 (and probably 2001 as well). Edited July 6, 2005 by neveronfriday Quote

I have one of their 2CD releases (the Sonny Stitt), and while the liners are shit, the photos stolen from all over, there is at least a (correct, as far as I can tell) discography in there... Quote

Tjazz Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Does anyone know if Amazon in the USA sells the Fats Waller or Benny Goodman 10-CD box sets? Quote
neveronfriday Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 (edited) I think it might be too early. They do list the Artie Shaw (search music for label "Documents") and previous Waller etc. boxes. I think in a few weeks, if you are lucky, they will turn up there. I've seen "Documents" stuff on eBay before, but I'm not going to search through all of that slush now ... mmilovan Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 (edited) Just saw tracklisting on this set, and, as far as I can tell (knowing some of material by heart, already) it features his first (1938-39) and second "string" (around 1940 and further) band and prewar Gramercy Five (there are few tunes of that band as well) These are probably master takes only. But, gee... 238 tracks... Nice to see all of them gathered together. Edited July 9, 2005 by mmilovan Quote

Tjazz Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 (edited) This looks like the 10-CD Fats Waller set Fats Waller box I'll order it and see how it sounds. Sounds OK. Yeah, 10 CDs, no disorgraphy, no booklet. Green color box and green colored CDs. (not my favorite color) When I put the 1st CD in the computer to play, it listed the title as "Portrait Vol 2 - Old Plantation Disc#3 shows the titles from the HALL OF FAME (5-CD set). It was only $9.63 from caiman_com when I ordered earlier this month (plus shipping). Caiman_com Edited October 19, 2005 by Tjazz Quote
