Hardbopjazz Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 I would like to see the 1968 Horace Silver Quintet do a reunion. I believe the 5 are all still with us. Horace Silver Charles Tolliver Bennie Maupin John B. Williams Billy Cobham Can you think of any other ensemble? Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 There are dreams of a reunion of the band from Perry Robinson's first album, Funk Dumpling (Savoy, 1962): Perry, Kenny Barron, Henry Grimes, Paul Motion. I don't know that Perry and Henry have taken any steps towards this. Mike Quote
Spontooneous Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 The rhythm section on Andrew Hill's "Black Fire," with Roy Haynes and Richard Davis. Quote
Big Al Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Seriously, isn't the lineup from Bobby Hutcherson's DIALOGUE all still alive? It'd be nice to hear them together again. Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Keith Jarrett, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, Paul Motian I would accept Joe Lovano as a substitute for Dewey if absolutely necessary. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 I wouldn't mind seeing Jarrett back with Garbarek, Danielsson, and Christensen. I kind of think that one more likely than the American band, of which I've heard accounts of quite a bit of bad blood. Mike Quote
GregK Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 I wouldn't mind seeing Jarrett back with Garbarek, Danielsson, and Christensen. I kind of think that one more likely than the American band, of which I've heard accounts of quite a bit of bad blood. Mike I'll take both, either, whatever, just a change from the standards trio. I really, thoroughly enjoy the trio very much and always buy the latest release the day it's out, but change is always good. Just to hear what either 70s quartet would come up with 25-30 years on would be fascinating Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Paul Bley, Gary Peacock, and Barry Altschul... Quote
BFrank Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Cream is playing this coming week. Too bad I can't make it. Quote
B. Goren. Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Geri Allen , Charlie Haden & Paul Motian. Archie Shepp with Horace Parlan. Quote
B. Goren. Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 (edited) I doubt if it's possible due to the deteriorating health of Max Roach, but I would like to see him again with Sonny Rollins. Last one I can think of at the moment: Marilyn Crispell, Hamid Drake, Peter Broztman or Fred Anderson. Marilyn Crispell, Oliver Lake & Reggie Workman. Edited April 30, 2005 by B. Goren. Quote
bertrand Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 (edited) All the musicians from my two favorite jazz albums, Etcetera and Destination Out, are still living. Bertrand. Edited April 30, 2005 by bertrand Quote
Free For All Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 (edited) Etcetera This one seems quite feasible. Shorter, Hancock, Chambers and McBee. All players still playing very well, IMHO. Speaking of Herbie, how about the Mwandishi band? Bennie Maupin, Eddie Henderson, Julian Priester, Buster Williams and Billy Hart? Edited April 30, 2005 by Free For All Quote

BFrank Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Gary Bartz' Ntu Troop with Andy Bey. I think they did a few shows (was it last year?) in Europe, but I would LOVE to see this. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 Speaking of Herbie, how about the Mwandishi band? Bennie Maupin, Eddie Henderson, Julian Priester, Buster Williams and Billy Hart? That was the first to come to my mind, too - and I would like to see synthesist Patrick Gleeson in the reunion. Quote

Guy Berger Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 What about a reunion of Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette? Miles is gone but I bet the four of those could really cook. Guy Quote
