king ubu Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Hi everybody! I seeded a FLAC-ed show on dimeadozen.org recently (the Bley/Swallow, in case), and someone posted there, and sent me a PM too, that he's getting the following error message: FLAC__FILE_DECODER_ERROR_OPENING_FILE /:Users:fink:Music:Torrent:Bley/Swallow98-flac:BleySwallow 1998-10-31 Zurich:02-AudioTrack 02.flac: Swallow98-flac:BleySwallow 1998-10-31 Zurich:02-AudioTrack 02.flac: ERROR initializing decoder state = 2:FLAC__FILE_DECODER_ERROR_OPENING_FILE He is using a Mac. I have not the slightest knowledge about how to handle FLAC files on a Mac (I don't know sh*t about Macs, anyway, never used one), and I'm not the brightest guy in regard to this technical stuff (some may generalise that statement...) Thanks for any help! Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Hey Flurin, I grabbed that show last night as well. I have an eMac at home. It looks like he is using the *nix version of FLAC installed through FINK, rather than the Mac GUI version. I'll check it out after work and see if I'm getting the same error. Jim Quote

Could you please post your response in the comments to that thread? I pm-ed the guy and promised to check if anyone can help him, as I'm clueless with Macs! Quote
king ubu Posted April 29, 2005 Author Report Posted April 29, 2005 Oh, and I hope you'll like the show! I was a bit disappointed about the 4-star vote, as it's one of my all time favourites! Quote
Guest akanalog Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 when i have a problem opening FLAC files on my mac, this usually gets it to work- i set the folder for the converted files to be put in rather than keep it on default. so i just choose a new folder for FLAC to put the new files and this usuallly helps my FLAC errors. macflac is weird-on one of my computers it takes about 10 minutes to convert the files and the other computer is about 2 minutes for the same files.... Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 (edited) Is this site for legal downloads? I can't see any information about what it has without registering (and I don't want to register if it's a bootleg joint). Kevin EDIT: Nevermind... I'll pass on this place. It's all bootlegged material. BTW, they try to cover their asses by listing bands who have specifically asked to be excluded. Legally, it's the other way around! More humor in their FAQ: Is this site legal? This site is merely a tracker. No files are hosted on this site. The tracker also has no way of checking the contents of any files which it tracks - it merely records the hash ID and the IP addresses of users connected to each particular torrent. It is your responsibility to check that the content of the files which you download is legal in your locality. Edited May 3, 2005 by Kevin Bresnahan Quote
Guest akanalog Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 oh come on. people distributing the bootlegs for free is sure better than people selling them on ebay and whatnot for lots of money. and a lot of it is not bootlegs but radio broadcasts... and all of it is music which listeners who PAY a lot of money for official releases would never have a way of hearing. Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Look, it's clearly not legal. If it was even remotely legit, I'd be all over it. There are artists who encouraged tape trading and I thought this website was for that. It's almost the exact opposite. My reasons for staying away is that these websites have and will continue to be targeted by the legal-eagles. They'll go to court, get an injunction, get your ISP to fork over your account info (which Verizon does with very little provocation) and next thing you know, they're knocking at my door with a subpeona. I'll avoid that... thanks, but no thanks. Kevin Quote
