"Finch" is David Spade's character in the TV series "Just Shoot Me".  :g

Points off for knowing that. B-)

My turn to second that... :g

You're right. I'm frequently embarrassed by the useless information that seems to get lodged in my brain. Just shoot me......

(I don't even really like that show)

Baby, if I'm the bottom you're the top!

Artist: Cole Porter Lyrics

Song: You're The Top Lyrics

At words poetic, I'm so pathetic

That I always have found it best,

Instead of getting 'em off my chest,

To let 'em rest unexpressed,

I hate parading my serenading

As I'll probably miss a bar,

But if this ditty is not so pretty

At least it'll tell you

How great you are.

You're the top!

You're the Coliseum.

You're the top!

You're the Louver Museum.

You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss

You're a Bendel bonnet,

A Shakespeare's sonnet,

You're Mickey Mouse.

You're the Nile,

You're the Tower of Pisa,

You're the smile on the Mona Lisa

I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,

But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top!

Your words poetic are not pathetic.

On the other hand, babe, you shine,

And I can feel after every line

A thrill divine

Down my spine.

Now gifted humans like Vincent Youmans

Might think that your song is bad,

But I got a notion

I'll second the motion

And this is what I'm going to add;

You're the top!

You're Mahatma Gandhi.

You're the top!

You're Napoleon Brandy.

You're the purple light

Of a summer night in Spain,

You're the National Gallery

You're Garbo's salary,

You're cellophane.

You're sublime,

You're turkey dinner,

You're the time, the time of a Derby winner

I'm a toy balloon that’s fated soon to pop

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,

You're the top!

You're the top!

You're an arrow collar

You're the top!

You're a Coolidge dollar,

You're the nimble tread

Of the feet of Fred Astaire,

You're an O'Neill drama,

You're Whistler's mama!

You're camembert.

You're a rose,

You're Inferno's Dante,

You're the nose

On the great Durante.

I'm just in a way,

As the French would say, "de trop".

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,

You're the top!

You're the top!

You're a dance in Bali.

You're the top!

You're a hot tamale.

You're an angel, you,

Simply too, too, too diveen,

You're a Boticcelli,

You're Keats,

You're Shelly!

You're Ovaltine!

You're a boom,

You're the dam at Boulder,

You're the moon,

Over Mae West's shoulder,

I'm the nominee of the G.O.P.

Or GOP!

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,

You're the top!

You're the top!

You're a Waldorf salad.

You're the top!

You're a Berlin ballad.

You're the boats that glide

On the sleepy Zuider Zee,

You're an old Dutch master,

You're Lady Astor,

You're broccoli!

You're romance,

You're the steppes of Russia,

You're the pants, on a Roxy usher,

I'm a broken doll, a fol-de-rol, a blop,

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,

You're the top!

Joan Jett

Quincy Jones

Billy Eckstine

"Q" "B" to Joe Namath hmmm, OK. But the Joan Jett has me stumped, unless it is a rhyme with Joe?????

BTW I would never consider myself of JJ fan, but if you have never seen her live she flat out rocks.

Hey- can't we answer my question first?! <_<;)

Just kiddin. Anyway, Joan Jett... Joe Namath played for the New York Jets, thus... "Jet(t) QB" I didn't think it was that tough!:)

btw, I almost just went with:

Jett

"Q"

"B"

... but I decided to use their full names for clarity.

It is not a stretch unless you never watch sports, Joe Namath was one of the few sports clues I haven't had to google. I was pretty proud of my self at the time, obviously a little less so now.

Question--I am pretty new to this game, and I read the game instructions at the beginning. Are we supposed to name people, or not? Quite often the three items listed are not people at all. Did the game evolve over time that way, or am I missing something?

Preston Love

Preston Gomez

Don Preston

"People" has indeed evolved into a loose set of parameters. Generic phrases, song titles with people's names in them, and other "loose" definintions are now common. Still, there's occasionally some outright violations. But since we're not playing for money.... :)

Don Wall

Charles Walgreen

J. Milton Eckerd

Up for review of rules.

Proper Names are obviously OK

Band Names?

Characters from Films, TV, Literature or Songs?

A phrase that refers to a specific person, be they real or fictional?

Do all three names need to be a part of a single theme, or does the theme only need to connect from one name to the next?

The theme only needs to connect from one name to the next. Kinda like the Kevin Bacon game, only without Kevin Bacon, and without any definite goal in mind.

But the names can all be a single theme if that's what you want. You got freedom!

As for

I think it goes a tad overboard at times, but I've learned to loosen up (a year ago I woulda been havin' numerous hissy fits :g )

Okay... Sidewinder, I tried, I really tried, but...

Jenny Craig -> Clifford Brown

I can't figure it out. Help? (Fats Navarro would have made sense to me, but Clifford Brown...? ) ^_^

'bump...

Ah... but I thought it was "Portrait of Jennie", not "Jenny". ;) Anyway, I think of Blue Mitchell when I think of that tune.^_^ But seriously, sounds plausible...

No, I'm not 51 yet. But I am over 50. ;)

Nah, the cats over a certain age to whom I'm referring to are older than that. That Clifford w/Strings side apparently was a bit of a hit in its day (in jazz terms amyways), and "Portrait Of Jennie" is on cut I always hear singled out by many of those who were there at the time. The Blue version was after their time, and on an album that was nowhere near as popular, to put it mildly.
