marcoliv Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 sad news once again... phew... Marcus Quote
Stereojack Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Mr. Kay left us first. 1995. After Connie Kay's passing the MJQ did play a number of gigs with Mickey Roker and later Tootie Heath. Did anyone here ever hear this lineup? Quote
agriffith Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 One of the greatest bassists! RIP Percy Heath. I remember seeing the MJQ in Dallas around 1990 or 1991 with the original lineup. Beautiful concert! I was fortunate to be able to shake hands with Mr. Heath at the end of the concert. The other three went backstage immediately, but Mr. Heath stayed on stage for awhile to greet some of the audience. Quote
James Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 The other three went backstage immediately, but Mr. Heath stayed on stage for awhile to greet some of the audience. Sounds like the Percy Heath that I met in '84. I was introduced to him at the beginning of the concert, and he was referring to me by first name at the end. Really blew me away. Thanks for all of the joy, Big P! Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Just ordered a copy ... This was in the mail this morning - good to hear how much he was at peace with himself and the world and the music. A beautiful gentlemanlike statement at the end of a great career. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 And now you've gone away and left me broken hearted, but my memories will see me through. Because I can't forget that magic moment when we met, that lucky day I fell in love with you. These are some of the words to the title track of his CD A Love Song, which he read at Milt Hinton's funeral - I hope someone recited them at his as well. Thanks again for the music that will keep enlightening my days. Quote
