Chrome Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Okay, I have vague memories of this guy as a "blues" guitarist ... his thing is that he's blind and plays sitting down, etc., but I also just saw something on Google news about a jazz album he's put out. Has anybody heard this or heard of it? My recollection is that Healey could really jam, but was usually kinda whitebread ... Quote
chris olivarez Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I saw him play on Dave Sanborn's show. I don't remember him sitting down while I he was playing guitar but I do remember him playing that guitar behind his back and with his feet and I thought that was fairly impressive. He's a good guitar player. I'll have to look into his jazz album. While I don't think he can do the same acrobatics with his trumpet, who knows,it might be worth checking out. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 He's been playing old-style jazz for years, running a radio show featuring traditional jazz, has had a record label devoted to traditional jazz, &c. I don't follow his work, but the interest & involvement in early jazz has certainly been lifelong. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I remember hearing him talk about early jazz and blues on CBC radio back in the early 1990s, when the Jeff Healey Band was pretty big. His knowledge was certainly impressive, a real enthusiast in the best sense ! Quote
jazzbo Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 His record label is Sensaton Records, though it seems dormant, and he has also done work for Jazz Oracle, supplying records or comments and notes. . . . Quote
GregN Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Saw him play on T.V. years ago, and was floored. Aside from his showmanship, the man can really play. I haven't heard any of his jazz work but my curiosity has been peaked. G Quote
