GregK Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Does this have anything that is also on the Holy Ghost box set? Quote
jazzbo Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 The only Hatology I own, and a damned good concert. Quote
Claude Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Great music, good recording quality (mono radio recordings) Quote
GregK Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 Are all Hatology CDs limited? I think I will order this one now anyway Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 All cds, Hat or otherwise, are limited. Buy the sucker now. Quote
Claude Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 hatOLOGY 573 / LAST CHANCE, SOON SOLD OUT Albert Ayler - Lörrach, Paris 1966 http://www.hathut.com/ology-content.html Quote
JSngry Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Does the CD replicate the vinyl format, where one disc plays at 33 1/3 and the other plays at 45? If not, I'll have no part of this so-called "progress". Quote
jazzbo Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Well, you don't have to flip sides or change speeds. Sounds really really good though. . . better than the vinyl I think (from comparisons to a tape of the vinyl). Quote
JSngry Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Well, you don't have to flip sides or change speeds. You mean...you just sit there and listen all the way through? Quote
Big Wheel Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Would this be the best (or close to the best) introduction to Ayler? Quote
JSngry Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Don't know that there necessarily is such a thing, but it's a good concert from Ayler's middle period, where the emphasis was on the group rather than the solos. Lots of anthematic, folk-type melodies played in a spirit of near-ecstasy. Spiritual Unity it's not, but then, it's not supposed to be. Bottom line - if you get into Ayler, you'll want to have it, and it's a limited edition. Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Love Ayler, but as soon as I hear that wretched violin squeeeling...I'm gone.... Quote
wolff Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I'll be picking up the first 3LP Holy Ghost vinyl set, soon. Someone, maybe Jazzbo, needs to tell Revenant vinyl is dead. Quote
l p Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Love Ayler, but as soon as I hear that wretched violin squeeeling...I'm gone.... there should be a fast-forward button on your remote control. Quote
l p Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Would this be the best (or close to the best) introduction to Ayler? i like witches and devils, aka spirits. for some reason it sounds like a mellow session. and the 1969-70 material is probably underrated. the various versions of the tune 'prophecy'. and summertime on 'my name is albert ayler', that's some sweet stuff. but basically, i'd get all ayler. clifford_thornton Posted April 30, 2005 Report Posted April 30, 2005 You can skip New Grass, but yeah, I'd get the rest of his discography if you can! Quote

I already have this one but this reminded me that I have to hurry up and get the Cecil Taylor Hatology titles (One Too Many Salty Swift and Brewing Luminous) that I've been putting off forever Quote
WD45 Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Is this Hatology material similar to the Live at Greenwich Village 2cd Impulse! release from a few years back? I listened again to Spirits Rejoice, and seem to enjoy it a great deal more than the Greenwich set. Quote
brownie Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 The Hathut and the Impulse live albums are somehow similar and feature the same band with one exception (Bill Folwell is on bass on the European concerts with Alan Silva taking over in the Village) but both should be enjoyed. Never enough of Ayler material! Quote
