McCoy Tyner on Mosaic Select

According to the Jazzmatazz, Blue Note will reissue this summer another McCoy Tyner recording: Time for Tyner (RVG Edition). As you probably know, "The Real McCoy" and "Tender Moments" have been already reissued.

On January 2006 (tentative date), Mosaic will release a new select set with the rest of Tyner recordings for BN: "Expansions," "Extensions," "Cosmos" and "Asante". This set will complete the reissue of all Tyner recordings for Blue Note. I can promise you I'll be one of the first to pre order this set.

mccoy also recorded 5 albums for blue note in the 80's and 90's.

It's kind of weird that they would lump classics like Extensions, Expansions and Asante on a box with a high price tag and limited circulation while releasing his two weakest BN albums (Time for Tyner and Tender Moments) as individual discs....

of course, it's all a matter of personal taste. i, for one, prefer the "weaker" time for tyner and tender moments over the recordings you consider "classics" that are slated for reissue in the mosaic set.

I always think of 'Tender Moments' as one of his very strongest Blue Notes, but there again I guess it's down to personal taste. A very good session IMO.

Of course you are right kulu. I mean his 67-70 recordings.

This set is definitely one my wish list. A long over due reissue, imho.
