agriffith Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 RIP Mr. Levey. Another giant has departed! I hadn't checked the board for a few days and all of a sudden NHOP, Jimmy Woode, and Stan Levey gone. Quote

king ubu Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Very nice read, that article. Thanks for sharing! Is there any book with photos of Levey? Or at least some "famous" album covers he did? I think the Getz West Coast 3CD set has some great b/w photos of Levey, but that's all I can think of right now. Quote
brownie Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Away from home now so cannot check for sure but didn't Stan Levey not only pose but took the great photo that is on the cover of 'The Arrival of Victor Feldman', the Contemporary album? And many thanks Garth for posting that Stan Levey obituary! Quote

slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Wasn't there a release on Bethlehem that featured - among others - Decter Gordon and Frank Rosolino? Stanley will be sorely missed. He left a body of great recordings to enjoy at least. RIP Quote
Harold_Z Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Decter kicks butt on that one. You caught me at the right time on that one Chuck. I almost choked on my stoly on the rocks. Quote
Kalo Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Wasn't there a release on Bethlehem that featured - among others - Decter Gordon and Frank Rosolino? Yeah, this one, mentioned by Free for All Earlier in the thread: A favorite Stan Levey date...... This Time The Drum's On Me W/Dexter Gordon, Frank Rosolino, Conte Candoli, Lou Levy and Leroy Vinnegar. Excellent hard bop. Quote
