slide_advantage_redoux Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 (edited) I bought this CD recently..."Roswell Rudd" (#10 in the 'Free America' series) I have this one on vinyl already. Loved it then; love it now! The NYAQ horns, but with a European rhythm section. (Rudd, J. Tchicai, Finn Von Eyben - bass, and L. Moholo - drums. Has the original liner notes as well as updated observations by Philippe Carles. Nice production, with lots of attention and respect towards the original project. I need to sit down and listen to both - one right after the other to compare. Has anyone done so? This release sounds very clean, but it has been awhile since I dropped needle on the vinyl. Recommended highly! Edited April 12, 2005 by slide_advantage_redoux Quote
Guest akanalog Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 i thought the sound quality blew when i heard this disc. Quote
king ubu Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I love this one! I think I posted some mumblings in the Free America thread in the reissues section. Always good to hear Rudd, in my opinion! Moholo, btw, is from South Africa. He's one of the exiles, deciding to stay in Europe, together with a bunch of fine South African jazz musicians (Dollar Brand, Dudu Pukwana, Chris McGregor...) Quote
Clunky Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I've just got this one and the Braxton Donna Lee. Only listened so far on the car stereo. Sound certainly is below par but quite listenable (not unlike the better parts of Holy Ghost) Quote
AllenLowe Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 how does the sound compare to the original LP? Quote
Claude Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I have only heard the CD, the sound is very poor. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I think that the LP sounds good, though a bit muddy - still, it's a bootlegged radio tape source, so far above par when you think about it. CD can't be any worse, right? Funny, Universal reissuing a bootleg concert LP. Great record, though! Quote
JohnS Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Had the vinyl from the start - fine music, sound acceptable. Quote
