sidewinder Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Used a bit of the old lemon in the cooking tonight. Sea bass and Atlantic prawns marinated in garlic, lemon and white wine and cooked in a dill sauce. Served with rice and grilled tomatos. Quote
Ron S Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 When life gives you limes make limeade??? I don't think so. And if you wanted to sue a car dealership or manufacturer, would you want to do so under a Lime Law??? Good Luck. Quote
Big Al Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Anyone ever drink Limeade? Doesn't quite cut it. Au contraire, mon frere!!! Quote
catesta Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 I never though I'd live to see the day lime would become more popular than lemon. Quote
Big Wheel Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Anyone ever drink Limeade? Doesn't quite cut it. It does if you get it from a good Vietnamese restaurant. In fact, you pretty much can't make good Southeast Asian food without using limes. (full disclosure: I voted lemon.) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 I made some tilapia just the other night. Very simple... some flour, some lemon, some capers, and salt and peppa! Make mine lemon. Quote
Big Wheel Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 (edited) Simpler is often better with fish. The mackerel I made a while back had like 3 steps: 1. Season fish with salt. 2. Jam lemon and fresh oregano inside cavity and tie it all up with string. 3. Toss on cookie sheet and throw in oven. Delicious with a sauce made from mixed olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Noj Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Lime for Mexican food, lemon for most others. Quote
rachel Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 (edited) Had Key Lime Chicken last night at a work function....it was one of the best things I've ever tasted.... I'll take Key Lime Pie over Lemon Meringue any day... but it has to be Ketel One and tonic w/lemon... and Stoli Lemon vodka w/iced tea makes a fabulous "Ice Pick"... but what is a margarita w/o fresh squeezed lime? I guess it's all about context. Edited April 8, 2005 by rachel Quote

catesta Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 I made some tilapia just the other night. Very simple... some flour, some lemon, some capers, and salt and peppa! Make mine lemon. Love the stuff. Best tilapia I ever had was at a place in San Diego and I can't remember the name. If you ever want to try grilling it, I found this method/recipe to be a rather good one. Courtesy of the Food Network. Season with a pinch of salt, paprika, cayenne, cumin, and a little pepper. Coat with olive oil and grill 3-4 minutes each side. I squeeze LEMON on it before serving. Jazzmoose Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Anyone ever drink Limeade? Doesn't quite cut it. How about using Lime zest in your recipes? I don't think so. How about Lime Marang Pie? Blind Lime Jefferson? Nuff said. On the other hand, no one I know would even consider serving Key Lemon Pie... Quote
Alec Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Lemon. It's invaluable when cooking fish and a G&T wouldn't be the same without it ! No offence intended to sidewinder, but if I’m in a bar and I order a G&T and it comes with a lemon, I know I’m dealing with a bartender who doesn’t know his/her stuff. G&Ts are always to be served with lime. (I have one in front of me now) My martinis however I like with a twist of lemon peel. Quote
jlhoots Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Depends on what you're using it for. I can't choose. Quote
Ron S Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 if you wanted to sue a car dealership or manufacturer, would you want to do so under a Lime Law??? No, because a lime is a good thing! Don't get technical. Quote

scottb Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Why can't we all just get along... after all Limon is the secret of Sprite! Quote
patricia Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 I think that a wedge of lime with just about any white fish is much more interesting than the expected lemon. I discovered lime chicken by accident, having no lemons, but luckily a couple of limes in the refridgerator. No, it didn't taste like lemon chicken. It tasted much better. Keep on using lemons for lemonade, but give limes a chance. Live a little!!! Quote

No, it didn't taste like lemon chicken. It tasted much better. Ain't it the truth! Lemon chicken tastes like.....lemon chicken. But this Key Lime Grilled Chicken was so fabulous and *different*.... I had visions of warm weather/sandy beaches/margaritas/gorgeous men, etc. It was *that* good. Then I realized that if I'm on a beach in a bathing suit with gorgeous men I might not wanna be stuffing my face with yet another plate of Key Lime Chicken, so I put the fork down. Quote
