rostasi Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 While listening to the Free America re-release of Emergency - Homage to Peace, it began reminding me a bit of an LP from Tisziji Muñoz called "Rendezvous with Now." It's been so long since I've listened to that record. Does anyone know more about this guy? I know that he played with Pharoah some and, I think, Dave Liebman, but can anyone recommend any of his other recordings? Thanks! Quote

rostasi Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 All ye need to know-- http://www.tisziji.com/ Thanks Nate! I'll take a look. I'd still like to hear some comments from listeners and/or musicians. Quote
7/4 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 I've seen him perform a few times. Pharoah is on a few of his albums. Any of those are good place to start. Quote

I was thinking that maybe he played with Pharoah live 'cause I didn't remember seeing his name on any of the LPs, but, OK, so Pharoah joins him on a few tunes... I've been a little wary of the...um...for lack of a better phrase..."cosmic consciousness" aspect - or what seems like c.c. I'll look for some mp3s to hear something more than the first LP. thanks David! Quote
7/4 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Sure! I do think he's on at least one of Pharoah's albums, but I've never heard it. Last time I heard him play live, Ravi Coltrane, Pharoah, Rashid Ali, Don Pate (bass) and Paul Shaffer (yes, the Letterman guy). I was down front and I'm pretty sure the entire club levitated. Amazing evening. Quote
7/4 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 "cosmic consciousness" aspect That translates to sounding like late period Coltrane (for me, a good thing). Quote
Louis Schwartz Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I have "Auspicious Healing" and "Present without a Trace," and would heartily recommend them both. AH has a slight edge for me because I'm a big fan of Henry kaiser, Marilyn Crispell, and Mark Dresser, but PWAT has Saunders. THere are samples of the latter on the website. "Hu-Man Spirit" with Liebman looks very attractive. I may pick that one up next! L. Quote

It's the kind that I'm sure that you've heard that often involves endless noodling - you know, very little substance which is far from late Trane. Thanks Louis and welcome to the Board! I'll check out the titles that you mentioned at the website. Quote

AmirBagachelles Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I saw a hypnotic Tsizji set at Tonic last summer (warmed up for Zorn). My friends and I really enjoyed the intensity of the experience, went well with a shot of tequila. I don't know any of his records though. Quote
