JohnJ Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Person of Interest - Season 2. Incredibly entertaining and even better than season one so far (half a dozen episodes). Pretty topical too! Quote
jazzbo Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Just watched the latest Longmire. Thanks for the headsup on Person of Interest Season 2 being out, ordered the Blu-ray; really liked this season. Quote
agenbite Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Bleak House BBC Started rewatching this impressive classic. I've seen almost every BBC Dickens production and consider this one of the very best. As a long time fan of British adaptations, going back to Upstairs,Downstairs (not a true adaptation, but what the hell), I agree with you. I think Bleak House was their last truly great adaptation, and probably the best Dickens they've ever done. Quote
patricia Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 "Homeland" Season One. Loving it! I puposely didn't watch it on TV because I missed the first few episodes. I've followed Damian Lewis' career since he was on an episode of "Poirot." He just gets better.Same with "The Following." Season One should be on DVD before the new one airs, so.... Quote
Shawn Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Hart Of Dixie - Season One. This show could be called "Southern Exposure" because it essentially takes the premise of Northern Exposure and relocates it to a small town in Alabama (actually, Burbank CA on a backlot, but close enough). Silly? Yes. Contrived. Yes. Overly Cutesy? Yes. Entertaining? Yes. A game cast makes it all worthwhile. Quote
erwbol Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Hannibal season finale. Thank goodness this show was recently renewed. This is a Sopranos quality show imo. Never feels rushed despite the 40/41 minutes episode length. Mads Mikkelsen is the definitive screen Hannibal Lecter. I hope people will catch onto this show so it will get better ratings domestically for season 2. Comparing Hannibal to The Following is like comparing haute cuisine to McDonalds, seriously. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) I couldn't handle Hannibal, too bleak and freak show for me. (Wouldn't put it up there with Sopranos in my case, nor is Sopranos a pinnacle of TV for me, I liked it a lot, but there were aspects I really disliked). Finishing up watching Season 5 part 1 of Breaking Bad on blu-ray (I watched all episodes on broadcast as well). Four is still my favorite season but this one is next best. kinuta Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Dates - Channel 4 Episodes 1-5 Not at all as it might appear but well written and interesting. I thought it was very good. I'm with Jazzbo on Hannibal, I didn't like it at all. Edited June 22, 2013 by kinuta Quote
jazzbo Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Watching some more of Person of Interest on blu-ray early in the morning and late at night (when I'm home). This show suffers a bit from the CBS "keep it simple" formula, but it's really a satisfying watch I must say, the most successful J. J. Abrams vehicle since LOST imo. Quote
Shawn Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Watching some more of Person of Interest on blu-ray early in the morning and late at night (when I'm home). This show suffers a bit from the CBS "keep it simple" formula, but it's really a satisfying watch I must say, the most successful J. J. Abrams vehicle since LOST imo. I read an interview with J.J. and he tries to point out that he's not as involved in the creative side of his shows as much as people expect. He basically says that he runs the production company, producers come to him to pitch ideas for shows, he just facilitates them but the majority of the creative input comes elsewhere. That's why you see such disparity between shows like Fringe or Revolution, J.J. is writing the checks, there are others writing, producing and directing the shows. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 I can understand that and actually did know that. Still, I'm surprised that I've not really liked a lot of these shows as much as I have, and Person of Interest is the one that I like the most. Right now I'm checking out a series of shows called "What the Ancients Knew" that is very interesting (have seen the episodes about Egypt and India; there are three more to watch.) Quote
jazzbo Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Oh by the way, I love "Small Town Security," I think it's hilarious. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Looking forward to the Mad Men season finale tonight. Quote

Comparing Hannibal to The Following is like comparing haute cuisine to McDonalds, seriously.Did someone compare "Hannibal" to "The Following"?Of course they are two different dramas about two different kinds of evil. No comparison.IMO,both Mikkelsen and Brian Cox [in the first version of "Red Dragon", which was seen on television as "Manhunter"] were better cast in the Lecter role than Anthony Hopkins. Quote
erwbol Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 The Following has truly awful writing. So hey, if crime drama cliches are your thing. I find it loathsome. Quote
BruceH Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Been watching a lot of Dr. Who with my son. The new series. We're on the third season, so 10th Doctor, David Tennant. Quote
kinuta Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Mad Men season six final episode. Great stuff, a lot of surprises but no spoilers. Quote

Shawn Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Been watching a lot of Dr. Who with my son. The new series. We're on the third season, so 10th Doctor, David Tennant. I recently completed watching the seasons featuring the 11th doctor (Matt Smith). That was my first experience with actually watching Doctor Who, a show that I've been aware of since I was a kid but had never really sat down and tried to watch it. I became hooked quickly and blasted through the available episodes. I'm working my way back to the 2005 reboot now. Quote

I have a similar experience having watched a few episodes in the '70s (I had cousins overseas who were ga ga about it) but never in a dedicated way. I finally watched the reboot season a couple of months ago. Right away in the first episode there were things about it that reminded me of Buffy. In a way this makes sense since Wheadon sure seems to love everything British. There's a two-parter that's extremely great in the reboot season btw. I intend to continue on but recently re-watched I, Claudius for the 5th or 6th time and picked up a cheap blu-ray of Rome for a 2nd go round (I should have done this in reverse order to make the timeline more ordered, but oh well), so I've been spending a lot of time there. Yeah, I've been aware of Doctor Who all my life too, but never had any interest in it. Then my son got into it over the past year or so, and got me to start with the 9th Doctor, Eccleston. When I told him that I couldn't imagine liking anyone in the role as much as Eccleston, he said, "You never forget your first Doctor." Quote
patricia Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) The Following has truly awful writing. So hey, if crime drama cliches are your thing. I find it loathsome. I'm a fan of Kevin Bacon's work and I think, he is excellent in this "cliche drama."I continued to watch the series because I watch anything he does. There are few truly original ideas and this series is no exception. It's fiction, not a documentary, so I treat it as entertainment, not fact. Edited June 25, 2013 by patricia Quote
