Shawn Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) Shameless - Season 1 Shameful in comparison to the UK original. Never seen the original (though I plan to eventually). Regardless of whether the show is a remake or not I think it's an excellent series with an impressive cast. I think the show does a marvelous job of capturing "life below the poverty line" and some of the "tricks" you have to use to survive in a country geared to operate for people with much more money than these characters have. A Lark Ascending Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 The return of the traditional British activity of spending Saturday night with a Scandinavian drama: First two episodes of Borgen series 2 - excellent. And you could play spot the actor you previously saw in The Killing. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 The return of the traditional British activity of spending Saturday night with a Scandinavian drama: No 'Dad's Army' and Stanley Baxter then? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 The return of the traditional British activity of spending Saturday night with a Scandinavian drama: No 'Dad's Army' and Stanley Baxter then? Can't imagine many 60s-90s British Saturday night staples making it back for re-runs given current police investigations! Quote
ejp626 Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Still working our way through Get Smart -- up into Season 2 now. Still holds up pretty well, though every now and then Max seems too stupid to tie his own shoes. It's odd, because he isn't simply incompetent -- there are times he occasionally has some good insights. And he is braver than I remembered, though even there it [the writing] isn't entirely consistent. Am supplementing a bit with Futurama vol 7 (the episodes that aired last summer). There are another 13 or so coming this summer. Yea! I do wish Comedy Central would go ahead and renew for the 8th production series, but I suspect the writers are at least sketching a few things out in case it is renewed. Quote
kinuta Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 The Good Wife - tonight's episode It's a great show. I've been a fan since it began and I can't remember seeing a substandard episode. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 New season of Justified started tonight. Best dialogue on TV, in that inimitable Elmore Leonard tradition. Quote

Shawn Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Breaking Bad - Season One Watched two episodes so far, I can definitely appreciate the artistry in the series...but I'm not sure if I actually like it. Haven't decided whether I will continue with it or not. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Breaking Bad is great. Stay with it. Quote
erwbol Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Breaking Bad season one will start going places soon enough. I had the same reaction on first viewing and actually stopped after two episodes. Then a year or two later I tried again. I now love the show. Some of the most memorable characters won't be introduced until next season or later. Edited January 9, 2013 by erwbol Quote
kinuta Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Breaking Bad is superb, don't give up after a few episodes, it really does take off into mouth watering storytelling . Quote
Matthew Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 Duck Dynasty. The first time watching this, and I'm not sure if I should be happy or appalled with this show. Are there really people like this in the world? It seems like they're in a completely different world than the one I'm in. Quote

Shawn Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 Breaking Bad is superb, don't give up after a few episodes, it really does take off into mouth watering storytelling . I'm starting to connect with it now (on episode 5). Now at some point I need to go back and give Mad Men another shot, I've started watching that series twice (a couple years apart) and ended up bailing on it both times. I really dislike most of the characters on that show, makes it really hard to connect with. Quote
erwbol Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 Yes, the number of characters who can't keep it in their pants on Mad Men is tiring. And don't get me started on Don's ex. Quote
Shawn Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 After watching a bunch of dark and heavy stuff over the past couple weeks decided I needed a break with something relatively light and funny (excepting dead bodies of course). Quote
Shawn Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 I will miss Fringe, always sad to see an imaginative sci-fi show end. Quote
kinuta Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 I will miss Fringe, always sad to see an imaginative sci-fi show end. Yes, I'll miss Walter, one of the screen's outstanding eccentrics. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 i thought they ended the series well, though this was my least favorite season (and I'm not that crazy about the first season). Will be interesting to see where these actors pop up in the future. Quote
erwbol Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Justified season 4. Still great. What a contrast with that new FOX show, The Following. Just awful. Quote
kinuta Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) Over several days, Ken Burn's The Civil War , the whole series. Again as a non American I realised how little I really knew about this seminal historic event. I thought it tended to go on a bit but when ever it seemed in danger of slipping into tedium it was rescued by Shelby Foote. Love his folksy anecotes. PS The Following was awful. I like Kevin Bacon but the programme was bad news. Edited January 24, 2013 by kinuta Quote
