TedR Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 I've been watching Breaking Bad. Two more episodes to go this season. Each episode is a chore to get through and I'll be relieved when it's over for the year. Quote

Each episode is a chore to get through and I'll be relieved when it's over for the year. Oh well, I think each episode has been a joy. To each his own. It depresses me that there are only two more episodes and then we've got to wait for a year. Quote

It depresses me that there are only two more episodes and then we've got to wait for a year. My comments aren't too objective about the show. It's more my state of mind with worries about some family and friend's health care concerns weighing on me. For me I'm wallowing in the misery of Walt's family, so it's tough to watch. Still I'm intrigued so I'm committed to keep watching. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) Found an inexpensive set a couple of weeks back and am moving through series 1. I saw a fair few when televised 10 to 15 years ago but they bear revisiting and there are plenty I missed. Absolutely tremendous - one of the best send ups of arty pretension anywhere. Brilliant writing. All praise to the Godfather of Reality: Edited August 22, 2012 by A Lark Ascending Quote
kinuta Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 I've started rewatching TheShield. Now on S01E02. Despite it's faults it's still one of the best ever cop shows imo. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 I'm watching Sons of Anarchy, rewatching to get ready for the 9/11 return. Watched the third season, then decided to do the first, and now the second, and in a week or ten days should have the fourth season to rewatch. I like this show, like kinuta I like it despite its flaws. (Created and co-written and often directed by Kurt Sutter, who was involved with The Shield). Quote

jazzbo Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Just finished watching Spartacus season One again. I like it more each time through (this is the third). Quote
paul secor Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Yesterday I watched Centerstage on the NYC YES (Yankees) channel with guest John Turturro. I thought that he'd be too quirky to work in that context but, in addition to his career, he talked about growing up in Queens, his family, New York sports, and came off very well with the audience and with me. A Lark Ascending Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 A beautiful film about the Adderbury Morris Men from Oxfordshire. In Between 1914-18 all but one of the morris side were killed in World War I and morris died there. In 1975 it was revived again and the team has continued. Beautifully photographed, the film culminates with a visit of the current side to the Somme to pay respect to those earlier men at Thiepval. Very moving. Quote
BruceH Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 Still digging the current season of Breaking Bad. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 I am too, but not as much as last year's. Watched a lot of episodes of Discovery Channel's "Fast 'n Loud." Quote
kinuta Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Horizon - How Big Is The Universe ? Took a break from The Shield marathon to have my mind boggled by Horizon which is this time centered on a grand project to map the known universe. Truly awe inspiring stuff. An occasionally healthy dose of cosmology keeps life in some kind of perspective. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Re-watching "Mad Men" Season 1 for I don't know, the fourth time maybe? This time around seems I'd forgotten how much we saw of Progressive Insurance's "Flo"(Stephanie Courtney) in the early episodes. And I was very impressed with Maggie Siff's performance, but shouldn't be, she's a very capable actress, and this is as interesting role as hers in "Sons of Anarchy." I remember when I first watched this season how disgusted I was with the Don Draper character. I had just lost a loved wife, and he was cheating on his with two mistresses and acting like a huge jerk. And on top of that several young coworkers were just charmed to the gills with Draper, talking about him as if he were the epitome of manhood, they had a big crush. Now, seasons of the show have made me pity Draper more than detest him, and I've warmed to other characters as well. And this time around I began to understand why Campbell is such a douchebag seeing how his father was and treated him. . . I don't remember that from previous viewings. The Blu-ray sets look great. kinuta Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) Rewatching The Shield season four Michael Chiklis' as Vic Mackey is brilliant, I can't think of a better portrayal of a bent cop. Edited September 1, 2012 by kinuta Quote
kinuta Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Nearing the end of The Shield Season 4 but interrupted it to watch the first two episodes of Parade's End. I enjoyed it very much, the cast is amazing , the digital photography beautiful. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Sons of Anarchy, Season 4 on Blu-ray. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Last night's "first half of the final season" ending of Breaking Bad. Best episode of the season. Less cartoonish, consolidated the whole season and once again took us in an unexpected direction. Again this could have been a series ending, until the final scene. I love how the dangling bit of the book has turned into the catalyst of his downfall. Hank had to keep the book on hand because it bolstered him up, Gayle's dedication made him feel important as a chemist "artiste." And that has proven to begin his downfall. And we saw the CT "scanning". . . this could be a sign that the cancer has returned, or not. Like that extra bit of suspense added. Oh, and FINALLY they use "Crystal Blue Persuasion" -- a friend of mine has been waiting four seasons for this. Now the long wait begins for the final eight. Quote

I wonder how long we have to wait for the final eight episodes ? Started rewatching The Shield Season 5. Quote
