kinuta Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 I wasn't that crazy about Fringe on it's initial run (stopped watching around episode 5), but when I revisited it recently it totally drew me in. Guess I just wasn't in the frame of mind for it before. Love it now. I've always liked the show, but for me it really picked up and caused me more enjoyment towards the end of last season and with this new season; I love the "war between the worlds" storyline, and they way they've handled it. Hate that it has been pushed away for a spell by baseball! (I'm not a follower of sports). It was a mistake to stop watching this. I picked up again from episode five of the first season, and have watched through to the last episode. I am impressed and will continue catching up. Quote
kinuta Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Finished watching the backlog of Fringe episodes and am now up to date. I like the impending war between the two realities theme but hope the conflict between the two Olivia's is resolved soon. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I think it's an excellent hard SF show, much more satisfactory than the lamentable excesses and plot cop outs of 'Lost'. The fact that even the most outlandish ideas are presented as scientific, technological concepts is appealing, especially after the pseudo mystic mumbo-jumbo of Lost. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I guess I will always be a fan of some good ole spiritual mumbo jumbo. . . I really like Lost. And Fringe. Finished watching Chuck, Season Three. Just about to turn on The Good Wife. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I no longer understand how to watch TV so I missed series 3 and 4. Rewatched series 2 last month via online rental and got to the first one of these. Like Morse, just very nice Saturday evening viewing. The Oxford background, eccentric characters, often excellent classical music snippets and the atmospheric Barrington Pheloung background score all make me feel good - I hardly notice the corpses. kinuta Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Detroit 187 and The Good Wife. Michael J Fox was great, His final lines were the ultimate party killer ! Also watched The Event which is becoming very silly indeed. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I gave up on The Event. I might watch it on disc when it comes out, maybe not. Watched last night's Sons of Anarchy. Quote

jazzbo Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 It's a family drama. I'm not kidding. I wish it were more about motorcycling. It's about a gun-smuggling (though they'll soon have to develop another livelihood) band of thugs that pretend to be motorcycle enthusiasts protecting a charming little town named Charming. I really tried avoiding the show for a long time, but a friend kept urging me to watch it and it's fun to talk about to with others. Not essential watching, but it gets better as seasons go by and the family drama deepens. And the cast are actually getting better at riding bikes. It's interesting how the style of Dyna Glide (mostly) and other Harley Davidson bike customization used on the show has become really hip for modifiying bikes the last few years. Ron Perlman and Katey Segal are not too shabby on this show. And there have been a few interesting guest stars such as Steven King. Quote

I had the impression it was about post apocalyptic biker gangs, ala Mad Max. Way off base ! Quote
jazzbo Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 It's really hard to tell what this show is like from commercials, etc. Apparently it's pretty well researched as far as the background for biker gangs, their structure and nature. One of the actors is even from "the life." Its success for me is that it has become a rather interesting soap opera about family ties, loyalty, leadership and preserving or rejecting a way of life. The recent storyline is an exciting one where the gang arrives in Ireland to harvest the crop of tears and blood grown from their gun-running association with the IRA. All precipitated by the abduction of the grandson of the founding father of the gang. This has been the best season so far for me, and the only one I've watched during the broadcast season. Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Just watched the fight between David Haye and Audley Harrison , my next move will be to post in the what are you drinking right now thread. What a farce that fight was Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Ended my boxing day, watching Manny Pacquiao make a Pinata out of the face of Antonio "Hands of Plaster" Margacheato Quote
jazzbo Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Watched last night's SNL. Scarlett looked great. Wasn't a very funny show however. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Ended my boxing day, watching Manny Pacquiao make a Pinata out of the face of Antonio "Hands of Plaster" Margacheato Was facing Pacquiao part of his punishment? Seriously, is it any wonder the great Mayweather is avoiding this guy? Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Ended my boxing day, watching Manny Pacquiao make a Pinata out of the face of Antonio "Hands of Plaster" Margacheato Was facing Pacquiao part of his punishment? Seriously, is it any wonder the great Mayweather is avoiding this guy? Don't think it was the original plan, however you have to wonder what his corner, the ref and the doctors were thinking when then let him go through 'til the end instead of stopping this butchery,. As far as Mayweather goes well, don't know if it's insecurity that makes him behave this way and spread rumours that led to make demands and eventually abort the fight. Still would pick Mayweather to win but needless to say I have enjoyed a lot more the career of PacMan than the safety first Mayweather. Edited November 15, 2010 by Van Basten II Quote
kinuta Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Da Vinci's Inquest Season 3 I love this highly addictive series, great stories and acting. Sad to hear that 'Rubicon' has been cancelled. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Got the V Blu-Ray set. It was a good deal. Pretty weak show, but it looks and sounds nice. I like it better on disc than on broadcast thank goodness. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 The river flow. Also: All 6 episodes on a hired DVD - my favourite recent UK series. And episode 2 of: The relationship between the two cops is developing nicely, both viewing the other as over-private. Quote
