A Lark Ascending Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) An absolute scream - mockumentary about a Dorest morris side that upsets the morris authorities (shades of Lincoln Centre!), gets banned, leader goes of to join a new age Californian side, gets married to an American and ends up line dancing ('the dark side'!); eventually proves too much and returns to Dorest to triumph. A gentle, charming comedy - not sure if it's taking the piss out of morris or sports commentary. The Californian sequence is hilarious. If you liked Brassed Off you'll like this. kinuta Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 The Forsyte Saga- original BBC series (1967) Up to episode 13. TV at it's zenith, makes you wonder how it got to it's present sorry state. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 (edited) I rewatched the House of Cards trilogy over the last week or so. Ian Richardson was just fantastic! Edited August 22, 2010 by Jazzmoose Quote
kinuta Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Rubicon. Love the fact that it doesn't play to the lowest common denominator of viewer intelligence. I'm quite caught up in trying to unravel the plot(s) but fear the slow pace and lack of action will lead the studio to do an axe job on it before it has chance to develop. Really like the Gordon Willis style cinematography. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I'm watching Rubicon too, last night's at the moment. Great show. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 I know what you mean. In this series, there's enough of Arvin Sloan, Jack Bristow, Irina Derevko, Anna Esposito. etc. for me to really enjoy the series. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Esperanza Spalding on Austin City Limits. Not entirely sold on her bass playing or singing, but she sure is a lovely lady. Quote

kinuta Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 This weeks episode of the fascinating, complex Rubicon. I suppose we should savour this before the inevitable corporate axe falls. It's way too smart and subtle to survive into a second season. Quote
paul secor Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Was flicking through the channels on Saturday & came across an late 70's Lawrence Welk show on a PBS station. Thought I detected Barney Kessel and Earl Palmer in the ryhthm section, and sure enough it was they. Kept watching in the hopes that one or both would get a solo. Earl Palmer was featured on a couple of short breaks, but that was it. Wonder if it was a one time thing. Quote
mikelz777 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash So who here's heard of Ron Nasty, Dirk McQuickly, Stig O'hara and Barry Wom? I think that this is a great mockumentary and that Neil Innes' original Beatlesque songs were absolutely brilliant. He really captured the essence of their sound without falling back on just churning out a direct copy. Funny stuff though I'd say that the contributions of the Saturday Night Live players were probably the weakest moments for me. Fans of the Beatles who've followed them enough to know their movies, videos, concert footage and such should be impressed with how good this really is. Very well done.
