jazzbo Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Our course is clear: We have to collectively watch the seasons on disc every week or so and post to this thread. Quote
papsrus Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Just watched the Robert Crumb documentary. Kind of like holding a magnifying glass up to a piece of dog shit for an hour or so, but otherwise enjoyable interesting. Was kind of hoping he'd spend the entire film playing his record collection. A Lark Ascending Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Just finished series 2. Loved it. Now waiting for: I did see this series when it first came on but missed series 2 + 3. So I'm going back to 1. Recommended to those who like UK comedy - the three kids are absolutely brilliant. Quote
jeffcrom Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Winding down after a gig with the second-ever episode of Saturday Night Live. Paul Simon was the host, and the Not Ready For Prime Time Players are hardly on camera. It's Paul Simon's show - there are a few comedy skits, but the show is mostly music. Randy Newman does a wonderful solo "Sail Away." My favorite moment is when Art Garfunkel comes out; Simon says, "So, Artie - you've come crawling back," and they sing beautiful renditions of "The Boxer" and "Scarborough Fair." Quote
jazzbo Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Rewatched the Damages finale before removing it from the DVR. Then started rewatching this smallville season on Blu-Ray for pure escapism. Sure looks and sounds great. Quote
BruceH Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Watched the new episode of Breaking Bad last night. A good one. Quote
mikelz777 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) Watched the new episode of Breaking Bad last night. A good one. You can say that again! More than once during this series I found myself asking, "How long are they going to be able to keep this thread of the story going?" and then they throw in a new spin. Now the cat unknowingly becomes a mouse. Great series! Edited April 27, 2010 by mikelz777 Quote
jazzbo Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Watched Trauma last night. This is a good show, building nicely on the characters in their interaction. Quote
ejp626 Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Just found out about Corner Gas, an amusing series set in Saskatchewan and actually mostly shot on location there (fairly rare for CTV). I've been Netflixing it. Also, coming this weekend from Netflix is the first disc of the English-language episodes of Maldugi Days (indeed a filmed version of Narayan's short stories). Now if the question is what are you going to watch, then June 24, Comedy Central has new episodes of Futurama! With all the original voice talent! Yea!! Never thought this day would come. And in August, Max Headroom arrives on DVD. Talk about a long time coming. No idea what will be on there, but they say there will be plenty of bonus content, and it is supposedly a 5 DVD disc so they might have the British movie that kicked this off (ideally all the UK shows but that's unlikely), maybe even the Art of Noise video, probably a making of, commentaries, etc. I'll come back and fill in when more is revealed. BruceH Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 OK, watched Conan on 60 Minutes---good. Watched the new Breaking Bad; almost as good as Conan! Not quite as disturbing though. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) Smallville, Season Seven on Blu-Ray. Not nearly as good as Season Eight. Edited May 3, 2010 by jazzbo Quote
Shawn Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 The X-Files (Season 1) -They've added the entire series to Netflix Instant, so I guess I'll be busy for awhile. LOL Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Episodes 1 + 2 had me rolling round the floor. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 The X-Files (Season 1) -They've added the entire series to Netflix Instant, so I guess I'll be busy for awhile. LOL Yes!!! I've been waiting for this; I've only seen a couple of episodes, as I wanted to watch it from the beginning. Thanks for the tip! Quote
mikelz777 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Missed it Sunday but watched the latest "Breaking Bad" on On Demand. It was another good one. Who was it who called Hank warning him there were two men coming to kill him? Quote
BruceH Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Missed it Sunday but watched the latest "Breaking Bad" on On Demand. It was another good one. Who was it who called Hank warning him there were two men coming to kill him? A lot of people seem to think it was Mike, the PI/fixer guy. On orders from either Gus or Saul. But why would Gus sic the twins on Hank, then warn Hank at the last minute? He wants Hank and the twins to kill each other? I'm not sure. Quote

I like the theory that whoever made the call that it came as a result of orders from Gus. The brothers were a definite threat to his interests and were a thorn in his side. Hank was a threat as well and if he and the brothers were to kill each other, it would take care of those threats quite nicely. Edited May 5, 2010 by mikelz777 Quote
Shawn Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Okay, one episode, and I'm hooked. yeah, it's like that. I lost track of the show at some point during it's run, don't even remember where I left off originally...so I'm just going to watch the entire thing again. Quote
carnivore Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 The climactic scene in the car park was one of the tightest, best-shot bits of action I've ever seen on tv. The tension is still there on a third viewing. I thought that the warning really did come from Gomez who has all along known more than Hank realized. Quote

But Hank's beating of Jesse was about to deep-six his career. Gus allowing Walt to bring Jesse into the meth factory-lab saves Hank's career, keeping Hank a threat. If you think about this long enough, your head starts to hurt. (I must say, I sure hope Hank lives. He has become one of my favorite characters. Beneath the Three-Stooges-like bluster, he's actually a really nice guy, and one of the few characters on the show to have a firm moral center.) Quote
kinuta Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 24. The final season is now 21 hours down and things are getting very heavy indeed. I thought this show would go out with a fizzle but I was wrong. Anyone else watching? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 I never could get into 24. I've watched parts of four episodes over two seasons, and the first one I watched was one of the hokiest things I've seen on tv this century, and the other three portions didn't really alter my initial impressions. So I guess I've been saved about a week of days in my life. Watching Smallville Season Five on to its conclusion. Four and Five were the start of the "good" seasons of this show; the following three seemed to get increasingly better in my opinion (haven't watched any of Season Nine yet). Looking forward to the Lost episode tonight. Quote
