kinuta Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Flash Forward first episode, it was gripping. Hope it isn't axed prematurely. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I agree. Here's hoping it has time to develop. Quote
Matthew Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Led Zeppelin. Disk one. There are so many things about this DVD I ab-sol-lutely love, it's not funny. I love the Danish TV session, where after a blazing rendition of Communication Breakdown, the first song, the audience, which look like they emptied out the local high school (about fifty teen-agers sitting crossed legged), just sits there stunned, and by the looks on their faces are saying to themselves: "WTF is this???". I love that even in Denmark, Page is in full blown Guitar God Mode. I love the Royal Albert Hall Concert, where Zep is already the coolest band on earth, and the coolest guitar player in that band is wearing a sweater vest!!!! I love that Bonzo is stone-cold crazy on the drums from day one. And I'm not even talking about what I love in disk two. Disk two. I love the Zep, but watching disk two always makes me think of Spinal Tap, but I adore very second of this DVD. Quote

rockefeller center Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Clash of the Helmuts!! ...with Schmidt, as always, smoking like a chimney. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I just watched the first episode, Season 1 of The Office, and I've got to say, I can't stand it. The office manager is so completely and totally over the top that any scene he's in is actually painful to watch. And the lower key stuff around him is still so obvious that no payoff is possible. I realize that with just one episode, I don't know the characters, but what I saw here weren't characters but sketches that held no interest. Then again, maybe I've successfully passed into the "crotchety" stage. Either way, I think I'll pass. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) Just to make sure, are you talking about the UK version or the American one ? Was at the bar last night watching boxing PPV starring beltholder Montreal living by way from Haïti Jean Pascal against Italian Sylvio Branco. Branco sure did act like a Calcio player, he passed a lot of time on the ground, complaining he was fouled. Edited September 26, 2009 by Van Basten II Quote

Free For All Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I saw the first episode of the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm last weekend and have to say it continues to be dark and funny. I also am a fan of Weeds, but I don't have HBO so I've been getting both shows on DVD. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 A mix of Spongebob and Wow Wow Wubbzy. Betcha can't guess who's the audience in my house at the moment Quote
paul secor Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 An episode of As Time Goes By. Probably have seen the series ten times over, but I still enjoy it. Quote

I was discussing this episode at work, and I must admit, it's a lot funnier in the discussion stage than it is actually watching it. Maybe I'll give it another shot. An episode of As Time Goes By. Probably have seen the series ten times over, but I still enjoy it. My ex and I used to watch that, so it would probably be a bit too bittersweet for me at this point, but it is good. Quote

Well, the whole premise is pretty much over the top, so subtlety is not really part of the picture. Also, if you're not a fan of Steve Carrell you probably won't be able to get a groove going. No biggie really, it's just some fun escapism. TV lost to indifference is no big loss. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I think the problem is I know the other characters (or their traits; you know what I mean), but I've never met anyone even remotely like the boss. Oh, shit. I just realized what this means. I'm the boss. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) Watching on a webcast the Montreal Impact playing Charleston. in a 1st leg playoff game. Watched the second leg to see my local team qualifying for the semis, they played great, tough task ahead facing Porto-Rico. Sooner today watched Friday night fights from Sky Sports and also the fight between Vitali Klitschko and Chris Arreola one word regarding the latter , mismatch. BruceH Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Saw the Mad Men repeats yesterday. And the new episode. The repeats were welcome because I managed to miss one, the fourth episode I believe. The one where Betty's father dies. Quote
BruceH Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Just to make sure, are you talking about the UK version or the American one ? Sorry; the American one. Ah. For years I avoided the American version (even though I'm a fan of Steve Carell) then a couple of years ago we were at the in-laws' for Thanksgiving or something and some channel was having an Office marathon. I watched five or six of them in a row and became a big fan of the show. A different "vibe" from the British original, to be sure, but I like it. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Yeah, the American one is supposed to be over the top I think. I really like it. Always have. Watching The Sarah Connor Chronicals, Second (final) Season. Pretty lightweight, but it's okay. I love Blu-Ray. Things look and sound so good. Quote
paul secor Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 House - episode 2 of the new season Quote

The US one is a bit too sitcommish to my liking, but in a way they were smart to do their own thing instead of trying to replicate the original. We had a local version of the show with the boss character trying to imitate Ricky Gervais and it was awful. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Well, I tried the second one, but only for a few minutes. It's just too painful to watch; whenever Carell is on screen, I'm in 'permanent wince' mode. I'll have to try the British version. Quote
catesta Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 My Name is Earl I'm catching every episode I can. Don't know why I didn't get into this show before now. It's pretty fuckin' funny. Quote
