jazzbo Posted July 25, 2022 Report Posted July 25, 2022 Yes, I like the series and how it has mutated. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 27, 2022 Report Posted July 27, 2022 Watched this for the first time with my (adult) son on Monday night. Good discussion with him afterwards. We both liked how the film doesn't go where you'd expect. What might initially appear to be a crime/thriller genre pic mutates into... something else. Since this is a music forum, I should say that we also both agreed that Hancock's soundtrack is tonally "out-of-alignment" with the movie. Herbie's music seems so organic and soulful; it contrasts sharply with the themes of artificiality & emptiness that permeate the film. But maybe that was an intentional thing on Antonioni's part. I dunno.  Quote
HutchFan Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 A profound gut punch and a masterpiece. Â Quote
JSngry Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 Secrets of Playboy I never liked Hugh Hefner, just on instinct. Well, this confirms my hunches. Quote

Haven’t watched it. He seemed to be basically a pimp and a conduit of blackmail and extortion schemes. Of course that’s connected to some unsavory elements that were glossed over by his legitimate business ventures. Does that touch on that aspect? Quote

jazzbo Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 Finished Apple+ "Severance." A very interesting series and quite a cliffhanger ending! Quote
Dub Modal Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 59 minutes ago, JSngry said: Oh yeah....more than touches on it.... Who or what other organization floats legit business endeavors to cover lucrative undercurrents of illegal activities? Would there be opportunities for these entities/persons like Hefner’s enterprises to interact on various ventures? And if said ventures were successful, would there be reason to form a confederation of sorts to continue exploration and execution of further opportunities? Probably. And if all that happened (for decades) and continues to happen, essentially publicly known but hushed, what makes them able to skirt LEO’s so effectively? Hmmm… Quote
JSngry Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 You'll want to watch this, then. It's a bit of a time-load, something like 12(?) episodes, but the points about drugs and human trafficing do not go unnoticed, Â Quote
