kinuta Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Here is the trailer for Gracepoint, the US remake of Broadchurch also starring David Tennant, with Anna Gunn from Breaking Bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9IWvbbZPZc Surprised they're keeping Tennant. He mumbles through the series. Maybe they'll retrain him to say things like 'Awesome'. Can't imagine the Dorset accents of the other characters would go down well in Fox-land. Though you'll miss the best part of the programme - the Dorset landscapes. Where is the USA's Jurassic Coast? I am really surprised that this warrants a remake. I'll rewatch Happy Valley instead. erwbol Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Yesterday: Noah. From the moment treebeard and the rock monsters appeared I was convinced. This is what it must have been like. Quote

As with most US TV series these days it was actually filmed in Canada (British Columbia) because of the tax breaks and other incentives. Took a tour of Warner Bros. studios recently and only 1 outdoor set was in use, most of their TV series are shooting elsewhere because it's cheaper. Quote
Matthew Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Friends: Season 1. ... and yes, I love this show Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 At the moment I am here, but in about a half hour we will jump into the first episode of Boardwalk Empire. Wonder how long it will take us to see all episodes. Quote
duaneiac Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Recently finished The Pillows vs. Blankets episodes were great. Now watching Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Found this a bit dull. The central story-line was a bit thin, padded out by joining the dots on as many key civil rights events as they could get the main characters involved in. I wish they'd put the 90s series 'I'll Fly Away' on DVD. Now that series had real depth. Quote

Liked, not loved this series overall though. Quote

Sounds like I made the right decision! Forrest Gump goes into my "technically well-made piece of shit" category. Quote
duaneiac Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Recently finished The Pillows vs. Blankets episodes were great. Now watching I don't know what the production connection might be between these two series, but I noticed characters in each series eat the "Let's" brand of potato chips. Found this a bit dull. I can't believe Hollywood still feels compelled to lavish tons of awards on such simple-minded, manipulative drivel. Quote
JSngry Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Mission:Impossible, Season 1, Episode 26. "A Cube Of Sugar". Score by Don Ellis. Not "great" but I'm begun watching the show in chronological order (and paying close attention to the scores of each show along the way, just for grins) & this one jumped out at me almost immediately as being noticeably different than the ones before it. Of course, it's TV & psychedelic drugs, so there is that, but still, hey, Don Ellis, 1967, and prime-time tv. Best/worst of worlds, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q27JFAgiJJg Quote

I can't believe Hollywood still feels compelled to lavish tons of awards on such simple-minded, manipulative drivel. For the record The Butler didn't win any major awards, it didn't get a single Oscar or Golden Globe nomination and the critics didn't like it either, it has a 47 metacritic score. Quote

Thanks for setting the record straight. It's been years since I lost interest in all award shows, so I really don't follow who wins at them. I somehow had the idea that this film was an award winner. I am very happy to be informed that is not the case! Quote

Shawn Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 I binge watched the rest of Community over the past several days, probably my 3rd time through the first 3 seasons and it was the second time seeing 4 & 5. Really looking forward to season 6! Now to figure out something else funny to watch, I'm burned out on dramatic series right now. Need escapism.... Quote
kinuta Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Season 2 of The Bridge starts tonight. I'll be watching. I started the first episode but realized I couldn't make much sense of it without going back and watching the end of season one. Anyone watching without having seen the first season will be quickly lost methinks, it offers zero catch up assistance to new viewers. Found this a bit dull. The central story-line was a bit thin, padded out by joining the dots on as many key civil rights events as they could get the main characters involved in. jlhoots Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 We watched season 1 of The Bridge.Having said that we're going to rewatch the first episode of season 2.The new "villain" was in Run Lola Run back in the day. Quote
Shawn Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Scandal - season one. Since I've caught up with The Good Wife I have an opening for a female driven lawyer show, this one seems to fit the bill nicely. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 LOVE Scandal. Over the top, but the acting makes that fun. Quote
