Peaky-Blinders-Season-1.jpg

Nice and unusual. The best series about Birmingham (the real one) since 'Crossroads.'

Like the way it dispenses with the usual period soundtrack (1920s) using grungy alt-rock instead to provide the edginess.

I've seen one episode so far. Very good. Thanks for bringing this up. Maybe they got inspiration for the choice of music from the opening credits of Boardwalk Empire (excellent 4th season, little Margaret, more Chalky).

Not seen Boardwalk Empire - think it got stuck on Sky. 'Peaky Blinders' gets better and better, though you need to watch it with a Birmingham accent. Last episode tonight; though I won't see it until tomorrow.

I still think Sleepy Hollow is the most entertaining new show of the season. It's a love letter to genre films/TV shows and they got the feel just right, it's playful and doesn't take itself too seriously. Really like the main characters as well, they have a nice working chemistry.

Been wanting to see this for many a year. Ordered it from my online DVD rental place over a year back but it was out of print. Suddenly appeared in the post the other day, recently reissued.

A wonderful documentary interspersed with lots of playing. These people were just before my time - Pentangle were on their last legs when I got interested in folk - but its easy to see how they provided the roots of what I cut my teeth on.

I started watching Twin Peaks, from the beginning today. It's funny; I remember when this was on the air and Piper Laurie was kind of hot for an older woman. Now, two decades later, she's just plain hot!

Twin Peaks...barely 2. When I got around to watching the (TDGEB) Lara Flynn Boyle before she got anorexic & Sherilyn Fenn. Creepy factor....only the first was younger than my mother.

  • 2 weeks later...

I picked up the first three seasons on Blu-ray at a good price lately. Going to have to start watching this show soon.

Right now watching Nikita Season 3 (not as good as the second, certainly not as good as the first, just escapist fun) and going to start watching American Masters: Hear My Train a-Comin'

I can see that if you like those genres it's very cool. I can't get past the fact that Crane acclimated to the 21st century in like twenty minutes and the big story is just too silly for me to get into, I watched three episodes but I'm not continuing.

Beside that and so many other things....he's wearing the same clothes he was buried in.

Blacklist....just how long before she figures out her relationship to him?

Agree about Boardwalk Empire. Helps they got rid of some of the least interesting characters....meaning much more Michael K. Williams!....never watch something like BE with Pops who points everything historically wrong about all the real characters. haha

There are still a few around boring characters from the first season....and the major negative is less Jack Huston this year.

P.S. Funny how many Omar Little quotes would work in BE.

Hurrah!

Scandi-Saturdays are back:

Borgen Series III.

Like many didn't like the final season.

Finally finished up Luther season 2. It's a crime this series is so short, just fabulous.

Getting ready to start Ripper Street next.

1. Yeah, wish there were more.

2. Like Ripper Street, or @ least the first season. The 2nd one is up and down. Though Matthew Macfadyen's character comes across as the ancestor of his character Tom in Spooks....or he went back in time.

a documentary about Charles Aznavour. A befriended composer asked me some time ago if I would like to sing some of his songs. He wants to run another orchestra with repertoire like French chanson and other jewels similar, and is writing arrangements at the moment.

"Benjamin Britten on Camera"

Programme about Benjy and the Beeb over the years, Included a contribution from Michael Crawford of 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' and 'Phantom of the Opera' fame who was in the original production of 'Noye's Fludde'. Came across as very knowledgeable about the technicalities of the music.
