I think it's worth sticking with it for a while.  I've been impressed by the stories and the acting, which gets more nuanced.

I agree. Stick with it.

That makes me three to say: don't give up. It's one of my favorite shows now active (one more season to go).

I just finished Boardwalk Empire Season 4 on Blu-ray. After watching the bonus features, it's on to Jessica Jones on DVD.

I have read that there will be two more seasons of The Americans -- a 13-episode season five in 2017 and a sixth and final 10-episode season in 2018.

I think Season 4, which just ended, was the best season so far.

Thanks for the encouragement to continue - definitely intend to. I remember not being too excited by the first episode of 'The Good Wife'. These things need time to develop.

'The Americans' has had some very enthusiastic reviews from places like 'The Guardian' - I don't think it's taken off here in the way TGW, House of Cards and Mad Men did.

The Americans is well worth it.

It performs quite a jujitsu trick, I found myself rooting for the couple while gradually realizing how utterly repugnant they are.

You should definitely continue watching.

Actually, it sounds very interesting to me-I was a tech in silicon valley at the time.

I was hoping Mr. Robot would be recommended; it caught my eye.

It's extremely popular and has gotten excellent reviews, I think you should give it a shot and make up your own mind.

Finally got to The Beatles Anthology DVD set this weekend, we did.  Very impressive, very satisfying, not "complete" in any way, but it seems like this is their story as that want it known, namely, as a band. Even when it went bad, still a band. Works for me. I still hear people talking bitterly about all-hype, no-talent, couldn't play shit, etc etc etc, and ok, whatever, you stake those claims, but hey - band. Learn what that really means and then we can talk about that other shit.

I watched half of the latest episode of Preacher and gave up on the series. I wanted to like it, especially because Ruth Negga is in it, but. . . .ultimately it doesn't do much for me.

Watched the latest Unreal, and am about to tackle the last two episodes of Houdini&Doyle.

Wallander: Series 1 - disc 3

I'm enjoying this much more than the British remake. Should have discovered it earlier.

 Right.

Krister Henriksson  is Wallander.

Kenneth Branagh is a British actor pretending to be him. No comparison at all.

Me too, I gave up after the first episode.

I usually give dodgy shows the benefit of the doubt and watch at least two episodes before deciding.  Preacher was just awful.

Well, after the last disc in the Season 1 Blu-ray set won't play in any of the three machines I have on hand to try, I moved on to the Season 2 Blu-ray set of X-Files. These new Blu-ray editions look and sound amazing.

I never took to Branagh's version; loved the Henriksson version. Though the books are even better than both.

Can't get into The Americans - I've watched five episodes and find the main characters creepy with rather cardboard cut-out true believer and doubter personas. More kung-fu'n gadgets (admittedly 80s gadgets) than I'd expected. I get the impression the series will evolve with their adventures tying in with the key Cold War events of the 80s. Will probably bale.

New Blood (BBC 1)

Just watched the first two of this series about to end this week - really enjoyed them. Standard tale of corporate skull-duggery in the pharmaceutical industry with associated murders being investigated by a rooky detective and financial irregularity investigator. Quirky characters, oddball plot and some interesting camera work.

Already looks rather old-fashioned - definitely not portraying the Britain June 23rd chose.

The Night Of   (HBO)

Excellent, gripping, great script, cast and cinematography.

Totally superior to the original BBC Criminal Justice in every way.

Must see.

Not much on UK TV at present after being nearly deluged in the winter/spring with outstanding drama - presumably the schedules are swept clean for the annual 'Great Summer of Sport' with the good stuff stored for the autumn.

Continuing to enjoy 'New Blood' though it's turned out different than expected - I thought it would be one story over 7 episodes but it's actually three with links between. More slapstick than I'd originally thought - Jonathan Creek than Line of Duty! But very entertaining.

Two outstanding items on BBC last week - the documentary about The Somme and the New Zealand natural history series starter.
