jazzbo Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Homeland, Season 2 on Blu-ray. Wow, Zuleikha Robinson joined the cast. I like that woman. Quote
JSngry Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 Move Over, Darling on streaming Netflix. No color was spared in the making of this movie. Quote

Harsh... ... but true (except for regretting watching seasons 1 through 4). The last three seasons have been contrary to the Dexter character from the early seasons. Season 5 was a disappointment, but from season 6 on it was an entirely different show. Also, they didn't have a clue what to do with any of the supporting cast. ---- Now watching Citizen Khan. I agree that "Dexter" had an unsatifying ending, unlike the amazingly effective "Breaking Bad" finale. Quote
Shawn Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Sleepy Hollow. Just the right mixture of gonzo supernatural, humor and mythology. Doesn't take itself too seriously and is the most fun new show of the year. It's basically Buffy with a HUGE budget. Quote

In a sense from the moment the character got married and then they had a child and then what happened....it started invalidating the series. The last season was just one very long never mind. Outside of his still killing people there wasn't much of anything sociopathic about him for a good while. The last episode was as bad as the series finale of Sopranos and Seinfeld in my mind. It's best run is when Erik King was playing Doakes. Edited October 5, 2013 by Blue Train Quote
kinuta Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 The Blacklist Three episodes in, this could well turn into a really good series. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Homeland Season 2, Blu-ray. Not as compelling as the first season. Sleepy Hollow. I really think this is silly but what is silliest is how quickly and completely Crane has adapted to 21st Century life. Ridiculous! I do like Jada Pinkett Smith, oops I mean Nicole Beharie. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Nice and unusual. The best series about Birmingham (the real one) since 'Crossroads.' Like the way it dispenses with the usual period soundtrack (1920s) using grungy alt-rock instead to provide the edginess. Edited October 14, 2013 by A Lark Ascending Quote
jazzbo Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Revolution, Season 1 on Blu-ray. Pure escapist drivel but looks and sounds really good. SNL with Bruce Willis. Not much there there. Once Upon a Time: Neverland. I liked the first two seasons but this one hasn't grabbed me yet. American Horror Story: Coven. A nice beginning. Jazzmoose Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I started watching Twin Peaks, from the beginning today. It's funny; I remember when this was on the air and Piper Laurie was kind of hot for an older woman. Now, two decades later, she's just plain hot! Quote
jlhoots Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Finally got around to Breaking Bad - watching season 1 on DVD. Quote
erwbol Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Nice and unusual. The best series about Birmingham (the real one) since 'Crossroads.' Like the way it dispenses with the usual period soundtrack (1920s) using grungy alt-rock instead to provide the edginess. I've seen one episode so far. Very good. Thanks for bringing this up. Maybe they got inspiration for the choice of music from the opening credits of Boardwalk Empire (excellent 4th season, little Margaret, more Chalky). Quote
jazzbo Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 The Blacklist Three episodes in, this could well turn into a really good series. I watched the first three and am giving it up. Spader is good, but the rest. . . bah humbug. Quote

Not seen Boardwalk Empire - think it got stuck on Sky. 'Peaky Blinders' gets better and better, though you need to watch it with a Birmingham accent. Last episode tonight; though I won't see it until tomorrow. Quote
Shawn Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I still think Sleepy Hollow is the most entertaining new show of the season. It's a love letter to genre films/TV shows and they got the feel just right, it's playful and doesn't take itself too seriously. Really like the main characters as well, they have a nice working chemistry. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I can see that if you like those genres it's very cool. I can't get past the fact that Crane acclimated to the 21st century in like twenty minutes and the big story is just too silly for me to get into, I watched three episodes but I'm not continuing. A Lark Ascending Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Been wanting to see this for many a year. Ordered it from my online DVD rental place over a year back but it was out of print. Suddenly appeared in the post the other day, recently reissued. A wonderful documentary interspersed with lots of playing. These people were just before my time - Pentangle were on their last legs when I got interested in folk - but its easy to see how they provided the roots of what I cut my teeth on. Quote
Blue Train Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 The Blacklist Three episodes in, this could well turn into a really good series. I want to like it with Spader involved, but how obvious can he make it to her? Quote

When I got around to watching the (TDGEB) Lara Flynn Boyle before she got anorexic & Sherilyn Fenn. Creepy factor....only the first was younger than my mother.
