Noj Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Ah, a sympathy vote. So I CAN expect the ol' Blue Crew to suck. Oh well, go Angels. B-) I'm more a die-hard a hoops fan, but I like baseball. The Bruins were a first-round casualty but they've at least got an upside. The Lakers are in shambles. The Raiders get big mouth locker room whiner Moss and I'm excited. Sad times for my sports squads overall. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 AL East: Red Sox AL Central: Indians Al West: Angels Wild Card: Yanks or Twins NL East: Braves NL Central: Cubs NL West: Dodgers Wild Card: Marlins Reasons why the Yankee streak of Division Championships will come to an end: 1. The continuing aging of the team. Bringing back Tino and Stanton won't turn the clock back to 1998 - they're past their prime, period. 2. What rational person would say that Pavano and Wright will be more effective or bigger winners than Leiber and El Duque were? So, Johnson if healthy is a big improvement, but two times out of five, you run out a worse pitcher than last year. How does that add up to more wins overall? 3. The Sox have greater pitching depth, including a legit ace waiting in the wings - Wade Miller - plus Halama in the bullpen if anyone gets hurt. The Yanks have 5 pitchers and nothing else, two of the five are 40+ and injury prone and one is 29 and has had multiple shoulder surgeries. I know, Schilling is starting the season on the DL, but there's nothing wrong with the ankle, its simply a function of getting his arm ready for the season. 4. The Sox have a healthy Nixon to start the season, an outstanding fourth outfielder (Jay Payton) who would start for most teams, and added one of the very best shortstops in the league, Renteria. (I wonder if he will test positive?) Quote

chris olivarez Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Dodgers. I know they have a boatload of question marks but hey you gotta believe!!! Quote
BERIGAN Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I really don't know who will win, but the Red Sox and Yankees seem to have more question marks than last year...Cards fooled me big time last year, they seemed so complete, but teams with soft tossers (Braves for a long time example) don't win world series, plus their batspeed sucks... so, why not go with other people's opinions instead! Look who the "experts" predict as a WS team!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?page=05expertpicks Quote

(I wonder if he will test positive?) I have a feeling when we look back in a few years at the contract Beltre Signed with the M's it will be considered a steal. He's only 25! He's just now entering his prime. He hit .334 Avg., 48 HR, 121 RBI last year. Quote

The one, like last year, that doesn't have a colostomy bag taped to his leg and isn’t a 19 year old kid. Quote
Adam Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I think it's pretty clear that Adrian Beltre took a few years to bring it all together. I've heard his work ethic has been great in spring training, and I think it was a stupid stupid mistake for the Dodgers not to sign him. Piazza, Lo Duca, Beltre. I don't understand why new owners make a point of trading the best hitters that the team has. Quote
